As someone who uses the self-checkout at the grocery store and a couple times a month has the groceries actually delivered to my door, I have to say the touch kiosk in fast food places is fucking abhorrent.

There is no fucking flow-through of people, no crowd control at all. No line, no order. You end up with a cloud of NPCs who don't even have anywhere to stand properly and tons of accidental misorders made and accidental order pickups and confused people fucking it all up and nobody is fucking comfortable. I think a kiosk can work but these lobbies are not fucking designed for this shit.

I hate it, hate it hate it. Also university students and similar keep having lels by swabbing the touch screens and finding the fingerprints on those things are nearly 100% tainted with fæces. Because this is quality of the tardcloud you have to stand with at MackDonnoughs.

It used to happen all the time when the self-checkouts were first installed. If you went to the counter the cashier would walk you to the self checkout and make you use it. They stopped because chads like OP and myself would immediately leave and take our business elsewhere, but maybe some places still do it.

That happens at regular fast food places without order kiosks. Last time I was at Wendys some fucking stereotypical boomer made an autistically complicated order, took 2 large sidesteps to his left, and just gazed into the kitchen while others were having to reach around him to get their order while he just stood there.

Similarly, I've been at tacobell and some people will just grab the bag without verifying their name or order number while that food should go to the person still walking to the counter. I placed my order, sat down and patiently waited. Jose or whatever places his order and 3 seconds later my number was called and he just grabs it and starts looking inside complaining the order was wrong.

Kiosks can't fix stupid NPC behavior.

It does happen anyway but the kiosks add significant further disruption. Not only does the nebulous cloud of aimless NPCs have to avoid getting in the way of the service counter, they also have to avoid 3-8 bollards of touch kiosks smattered throughout the lobby. The Maccas in Dickson has a very small lobby and it's very busy. The introduction of kiosks in that lobby increased the local mortality rate by a measurable amount.

You seem Australian, which is somewhat strange considering your NPCs are programmed just like American NPCs. I don't really eat at McDs much anymore, but last time I was in one by my house dude ordered at the kiosk, then went to the pickup counter and proceeded to wait all 8 minutes standing there. Zero self awareness, just "i'm next" mentality fuck everyone else trying to pick up their order.

Its also comical as fuck watching old people try to use the self order kiosks too. Its a bit of a hobby for me and rough numbers are about 50% of boomers will have visible frustration and anger before getting an employee to tell them they've just lost a sale because of a lack of customer service. Like dude, that $12/hour fry slinger doesn't fucking care you couldn't figure out the kiosk. I've also seen the mexican woman notice a boomer enter the restaurant and just tap the screens for the boomers to avoid them getting pissy. Its very odd behavior.

they remodeled the supermarket near me so it had a better layout, which involved making the aisles not identical to before (things were moved around a little and not necessarily in the same aisles). everyone is in there saturday morning sipping their coffees and strolling calmy doing their shopping and this random old fuck just getting flustered by himself latches onto me and says "they wonder why everyone's so stressed out, they've changed the whole store!". like bruh nobody's stressed out at all. nobody's even putting a second thought into the remodel.
