Ah, these are now relegated to a fond memory now that the place I used to get them from disappeared. Can't be arsed to figure out how to make the bread myself either, and I got no local supplier for it.

Favorite is probably the sliced brisket sandwich. But I also enjoy poboys and cubanos when I get around to making them.

Cuban, more specifically media noche. I grew up in south florida and ate cuban food regularly to the point where I get anxious when I'm staying long-term in a place that doesn't have good cuban food, like it throws off my underlying autismal sense of regularity.
I live in DC now and despite having world-class restaurants for pretty much every type of cuisine, including MULTIPLE Uyghur restaurants, the choices for Cuban food is dismal. I went to one of the few in the district and it was so mediocre I almost called my dad crying to pick me up and take me back to Florida. The sandwich was as limp as a slice of shitty pizza, the pork was a flavorless unmarinated slab of mystery meat, the maduros tasted like nothing, it was a genuinely upsetting meal.

It's basically a fusion of middle eastern and chinese food. Chili oil noodles with lamb. What part of that sounds bad? Anyway, my point was it's an obscure ethnicity with very few restaurants throughout the world and DC has several. But a good Cuban restaurant is too much of an ask.

I lived in LA in 2008-2009 and absolutely hated it. But, I was renting in Hollywood and would have been a bit better off in a proper neighborhood like Wilshire or Silverlake or even in the valley. It was also peak GFC so LA was pretty derelict and jobs were few and far between. Lots of cool stuff and cool neighborhood secrets in LA, but it's all so much less accessible than a city like Boston. Traffic is terrible, public transport is terrible, it's very spread apart and you don't get proper "pockets" of interesting things, just one here and one there sorta thing.

Everybody posts this screencap but nobody bothers to ACKSHUALLY read the description where you learn that this was a food for convalescing patients who probably couldn't keep down other food without vomiting. But so you don't think I'm defending bongs, here's the famous quote from Douglas Adams on British sandwiches:

>There is a feeling which persists in England that making a sandwich interesting, attractive, or in any way pleasant to eat is something sinful that only foreigners do.
>"Make 'em dry," is the instruction buried somewhere in the collective national consciousness, "make 'em rubbery. If you have to keep the buggers fresh, do it by washing 'em once a week."
>It is by eating sandwiches in pubs on Saturday lunchtimes that the British seek to atone for whatever their national sins have been. They're not altogether clear what those sins are, and don't want to know either. Sins are not the sort of things one wants to know about. But whatever their sins are they are amply atoned for by the sandwiches they make themselves eat.

A muffaletta sure does taste good, but I don't think I've ever had one where I didn't almost chip a tooth biting down on a piece of olive pit. A sandwich just isn't the place for olive salad. When you eat an olive you know there could be a piece of pit and you eat somewhat warily. How does one warily eat a sandwich? It just doesn't work. One should not fear for his teeth when biting into a sandwich. Just seeing or thinking about a muffaletta makes my teeth hurt. Sorry, a muffaletta gets a 0/10 from me, such a tedious eating experience. Really ruins the meal.

prosciutto, good croissant, brie or swiss.
For brie: microwave croissant (butterflied) for 20 seconds beforehand so it gets really soft and hot and then IMMEDIATELY put in the prosciutto and brie so the cheese and fats heat up and melt
OR
Put butterflied croissant, prosciutto, and brie in the broiler at 400 for around 5 minutes/until you see the end fat on the prosciutto begin to bubble or the brie begin to melt.
When it comes to the swiss cheese, either you microwave the croissant with the swiss so the cheese melts and the croissant becomes soft and hot and then you put in the prosciutto or you use the broiler method.

When it comes to both broiler methods, make sure to cover the prosciutto with the cheese so it doesn't cook and only comes to temp, if you don't cover it with the cheese it cooks and becomes hard instead of staying soft, fucking with the texture
