I have one that I bought a few years Back for 60€, it's really great. 2000 Watts, single Plate. I'm pretty Sure a lot of the people who talk shit about induction only ever used electric stoves and are too retarded to tell the difference.

ALmost every cheap induction burner has the fatal flaw that the lowest setting is not nearly low enough. 300W or 400W is usually the lowest setting and that is enough to keep even a large pot of potatoes at a roiling boil. Good luck trying to make a delicate sauce or pudding with that. The only portable top with a low enough setting is the IKEA Tillreda, that one works well enogh for pretty much all cooking purposes. Man I love induction but it could be so much better if manufacturers stopped cutting corners, liek with badly undersized coils, non-adjustable settings and super rough pulsed power adjustment in the low settings.

Mine goes down to 200W but it also has a "keep warm" setting which I think must be about 100W. The 200W won't boil water, but in time (quite a lot of time, maybe 15mins) it will get a pot of water hot and ready to boil so when you crank it up to 1000W or higher it'll start boiling in about 30 seconds.

They aren't awesome for everything. I guess maybe a really expensive one would be awesome to own, but if you get a cheap one nothing will sear stew meat, roasts, or boil water better. Also I does an awesome job for ham steaks, bacon, burgers. Not the lord's cooker for things like crepes or pancakes though.

The lowest setting of the Tillreda is 100W, just right to keep a medium sized pot at a low simmer once everything in it is fully warmed through. Even a large pot if you wrap it in a thick towel on the burner, that saves a lot of energy.

Maybe you were just experimenting, but the most energy saving way of bringing water to a boil is heating it up at the maximum power setting, that ensures that as little heat as possible is lost during the heating up process. If you want to conserve even more energy I recommend the towel-wrap method.

No I boil at 2kW but sometimes I have a ton of prep to do and I don't need the pot blasting steam all over the kitchen for 20mins while I mis en place, so instead I'll put it on 200W so that when I'm finally ready so is the water.

I enjoy my cheap toshiba one enough. Got it when some of my hobs died and it fits my needs.
My only complaint is the low setting is 200w, which is okay but not ideal. Replacing it with an Ikea one that goes to 150w is kind of insane when I could get a pan or some nice lids instead.
Overall, just lower wattage floors and more settings, bump it up in 50w or 100w increments, lot of them are too much with 150-200w increments.
