What's your go-to for pickles at home? I've been going through different vlasic's flavors this year and am pretty disappointed the bread-butter ones were the only ones I really enjoyed.

>> No.20016749

I eat dill pickles by the handful, one single sweet pickle makes me wanna vom
sweet pickles are not real pickles

>> No.20018110

I like the boars head pickle you get from the deli

>> No.20018115

I've only liked Claussen and Bubbie's. Vlasic, Mt Olive, store brands etc have all been poopshits

Claussen and Tony Packo's red hots. There's some weird (I assume) white-label brand of deli pickle that tends to come in plastic tubs in the refrigerated section that's a solid third place.

this
claussen for vinegar pickles, bubbies for real pickles

The sweet dill ones that I've made myself.

I prefer spoonfuls of manzanilla olives directly from the jar, but sweet gherkins are pretty good as well

a classic dill smacks but i do love bread and butter. even a hot is good but not very often. many times i think people make them too spicy

bubbies are best overall, but pricy. grillos is best vinegar quick pickle, kind of deli style. claussen is tasty but uses a lot of allspice and it doesn’t work with everything. i finally found a store that sells vlasic original dills (not kosher) and I bought 4 jars, they’re the simplest tasting, just salt and vinegar, but sometimes that’s what I want

Why not just make your own pickles? It's the easiest thing in the world, you can make way better dill pickles and pickle various other veggies for much cheaper than you get from the store.
I'm being silly when I ask /ck/ why they don't make their own pasta or bake their own bread, but dudes, just throw some cucumbers into some vinegar and pickling spices, it's not labor intensive, it requires literally no skill.

They're the same price as Claussen where I am. Well, not really, since Safeway keeps tossing me digital coupons for Claussen but never for Bubbie's. The sticker price is the same, tho.
I fucks with Bubble's tomato pickles hard. They're my favourite.

I don't eat them as much as I used to, but I'd buy the 128oz of Mt. Olive kosher dills and just chop them into slices. I probably need buy another jar now.

I really love bread and butter pickles with BBQ.

In general, I like to buy Boar's Head sweet hot horseradish pickles, any kosher "half sour" pickles, and it'll not disappoint.

Get a water bath canner and make your own. Pickling cucumbers are cheap in late summer, buy a shit ton.
Use proper pickling salt and follow the directions to make the brine. Add pickling spices and whatever else you want. I use whole cloves of garlic, dill, ginger, dried chillis and whatever else.
Tastes better than any that you can buy.

Lidl has some good large pickles, in general German pickles (the Gewürzgurken kind) are excellent.

they taste basically the same as always and are still overpriced for what are essentially fridge vinegar cucumber spears with a grape leaf for flair
