Has anyone cooked beans in a rice cooker just bought a new one and I want to branch out

Beans take too long, you'd probably have to parboil them first, unless you're talking about using them straight out of can (those are precooked)

Lentils can be done but I'm not a fan of them personally. 1/4 cup red split lentils is a fast way to add some plant protein and fiber to your rice tho

Huh, never though of mixing rice and lentils before. Guess I'll try it sometime.

Quinoa is excellent when made in a rice cooker. Comes put very fluffy.

you're better off buying them canned for the amount of energy you'll have to consume to actually cook them, and they're done fine from the can

Canned beans have a lot of salt though and I thought rice cooker energy usage was minimal?

No. I cook the rice in the rice cooker and the beans in a pot on the stove. Why would you want to cook them both in the rice cooker? Time saver? I feel like the aromatics and spices most people use to season beans would permanently flavor the rice cooker.

Lazyness mainly and one less pot to clean

I get it, but with rice and beans I find it better to either do them in one pot on the stove where you can cook up onions, garlic, tomatoes, spices, or whatever bean flavorings you prefer and then add the beans and dry rice plus water, cover and let cook, or do the rice in the rice cooker and the beans on in a pot on the stove and combine after they both cook. If you do them at the same time in the rice cooker you'll just end up with a bland mixture.
