I hold "Structure Rebel" to the exception that a sandwich should be "moddable". As a simple test, can you open it, pour a smear of sauce on it, then close it again without ruining the entire meal?
So burritos/wraps would count as sandwiches, but stuffed pastries and dumplings wouldn't.
I reject "ingredient rebel" because there are too ingredients that compromise the integrity of the bread. Another simple test, a sandwich should be something you can set down for an hour at room temp, then pick up again and start eating. So you can get away with using creams and the like as condiments, but if your sandwich is a literal scoop of cream (i.e. ice cream sandwiches) then it's going to be a problem.

A sandwich's purpose is convenience.
Never stray from that.

What I'm getting at is that the sandwich as a whole gets compromised by whatever ingredient you put on it.
Browned apple is a little gross, but it's not going to outright ruin the entire sandwich. If I were to go another direction with it, it's like having a PB&J sandwich for lunch. The jelly soaks into the bread a little bit and is a little soggy, but it's not enough that the sandwich stops being a sandwich.

Also tuna sandwiches are best when it's just heavily drained tuna mixed with mayo and salt and pepper maybe a splash of lemon juice but that's it. Adding pickles onions and other shit to it just fucks with it
