The bags are expensive and for several reasons, you have to use a good bit of extra space on the bag. If you want to sous vide, they're useful for that but if you're planning on buying a bunch of chicken on sale and putting them in vacuum bags, you're not actually going to save much, if anything. You can find cheap bags on Amazon but they tend to have creases in them and who the fuck knows what type of plastic ENGORLAI or TRALONANA "brands" are using.

So I shouldn’t get one?

good way to freeze leftovers in portions, but ultimately not good to wrap things in plastic and melted plastic fumes. a conundrum, but i use mine a lot

good for storing bulk meat from hunting, best when used with a chest freezer.

>> No.19902672

Yeah I use mine a bunch. Probably good to get a model that does two seals in one go. Maybe one that has a tube for jars etc as well.

kinda. I got one and use it if something is going the freezer for longer then a couple weeks. I bought a standing rib roast I plan to do on sale for 6.99/lb yesterday, but because they're sold cold and not frozen, you arent supposed to vacuum seal before its frozen due to the liquid getting sucked out. it's a bit redundant now in that, when I get home today, illbhave to take it out of my freezer and then vacuum seal it to go back in my freezer.

Yes. If you're a Costco or Sam's shopper, they're great. I'm sure someone out there has an exact number, but anecdotally, vacuum-packed food fends off freezer burn a hell of a lot longer than food that's just been wrapped.

I grew up wypipo poor, so even though I'm a financially comfortable adult, I'm a food hoarder. If my big freezer isn't full-to-overflowing, I get nervous. Vacuum sealer is key to a lot of this surviving a long time in the deep freeze.

Yes definitely, in fact buy 2 of them.

Buy glass containers and its pretty good. Bread keeps for a week under vacuum for example..
Thats a 20 year old model you posted. Find one with a tube that goes on top of containers.

Costco has a Foodsaver model on sale right now for $75, I think it comes with a handheld attachment for bottles (I haven’t used it myself). IDK if there will be a better holiday price so you could always keep it unopened and return if you find a better deal.
