I'll start with something I just found recently, soup tacos

Canned, prepared foods are rarely budget foods, nothing convenient outside of things like instant ramen are budget friendly
1. go to a food bank
2. learn to cook from bulk ingredients like dried beans, lentils, barley, rice, potatoes, and onions
3. learn to use leftover bones and vegetable trimmings to make stock

>> No.19882679

Never made lentil tacos but I'm pretty sure it's basically what musselmen eat all around the world
Don't make ramen tacos, make nacho cheese ramen instead
It's a ramen cooked in water with two slices of American cheese
When it's done hit it with some hot sauce or salsa or queso dip
Put the cheese in with the water to bring to a boil, it will melt fine
I'm totally serious

Yup this. At my lowest and poorest I would just walk into stores walk around eating stuff and walk back out again twice a day. No one said anything hell I don’t think anyone even noticed or cared.

>campbell's condensed french onion soup
>bag of croutons
>cheap sliced provolone

add water to soup and heat on stove top, transfer to oven-safe soup bowl, add a handful or two of croutons, top with a couple slices of provolone and bake at 350 for 15-20, broiling for the final 1-2 minutes if needed to brown the top. it makes for an attractive, appetizing dish with minimal effort. i've literally never made this around/for others without them telling me it looks/tastes great. would probably taste better and cost less with homemade croutons, but that takes away from the immense simplicity. fuark i'm gonna make myself some tonight

Sad that in my country in supermarkets or grocery places doesn't have samples(not everywhere and if there are it's just one thing like "Try new cream cheese and crackers of this brand!") or I would do that.
Now usually I do this, when I go to the supermaket I use the "Self Chekout" machine, I put in the list only half or 3/4 of the stuff I buy, the rest I don't scan it and I put it on the bottom in case the machine say "Need a bag check" a bored out guy will come out, scan the top 5 items, the system is always 5 and if it happens one I didn't put I say nothing or say "Sorry I forgot to scan it no biggy" so I go out that I paid like half instead of full price on my groceries. I even tried it and the alarm never started so i'm good for now.

I used to walk out with thousand dollar shopping carts from whole foods

Can confirm..
A really fat chick told me about this, and she was so stupid in everything else she ever said, I didn't really believe her.
works best in either a ramen bowl, or the beef box ones,
>pic
but if you're really strapped for cash, regular ramen works fine.
I'm partial to Aldi swiss slices, but I've enjoyed both the regular "Merican, and the 4 cheese ones too.
It's not something you was to eat all the time though, That chick was FAT for good reason.

5lb of chicken thighs (bone in, skin on)
5lb of flour
A head of cabbage
2lb of carrots
3-4 Onions
A bulb of garlic
Can of chilis in adobo
A lime if you can swing it

Skin, bone, and cube the thighs. Marinate them with the chilis, adobo, lime juice, garlic, and some kind of oil and bake.
Render the fat from the skins and use it to make tortillas with the flour.
Shred cabbage and carrots to make a simple slaw.
Now you can throw together some decent tacos in a few minutes all week. And it's only like $20.

Freeze the bones for stock sometime down the road, you'll be glad you have them.

Chicken thighs/legs are probably some of the cheapest cuts you can get, and just roasting them with salt/pepper gives you a good meal.
Getting dried beans/lentils, cooking them up, then mixing them with white rice gives a complete amino acid profile, and is pretty good. If it's too bland you can add fats, like the chicken fat from those cuts, or bacon if its affordable.
Potatoes are cheap, same with flour, can always make some bread with that.
Obviously if it fits your budget then spices or pickles will go a long way.
