19874833 No.19874833 [Reply] [Original]

For certain reasons I have to start living more frugal, so gonna start living on white rice and chicken. I already have a Zojirushi and I got tons of white rice, but I need ways to spice up white rice. It's bland as fuck, like I enjoy it but it's gotta have something mixed in it.

I don't have soy sauce or butter. I do have olive oil though, would that make it taste better? Any other suggestions? I'm sure some of you on here live on rice or eat it a lot. I know a lot of people on /fit/ are fucking live off rice and chicken, but I'm just doing it for cost efficient reasons.

For a sauce, finely mince some garlic and spring onion into a small ceramic bowl, add a pinch of salt, heat vegetable oil or something neutral to smoking, then gradually pour it over. If you like chilli, you can pour hot oil over chilli flakes in the same way.

Just so you know literal cults feed new members this "diet" to make them tame and open to suggestion. There is very little nutritional value and if it's all you eat over a long period of time you are basically starving yourself slowly. Go with beans and lentils instead and learn to make some vegetarian curries, with some beef or pork when you can afford it.

Fellow poorfag here with a zojirushi. For each scoop rice you put in the cooker, put 1tsp Knorr stock powder. Put the usual amount of water in. Throw some frozen broccoli on top, dice some chicken breast and throw that in as well, maybe some black pepper, then cook it like normal on sushi/regular (not the quick cook option). An hour later you’ll have your whole days worth of food and you can keep it warm all day.

I'm aware, but it's also a very common and popular diet/meal so I don't see the harm in it. I have bags of steamed veggies, was thinking of making that as well. At least I'd have vegetables in my diet.

>>19874989
I was going to cook the chicken and veggies in the air fryer. I wasn't aware you could put other things in the Zojirushi, figured it was just for rice. So you just throw meat and veggies into the cooker along with the rice? And it just cooks all of it together just fine?

Buy cooked rotisserie chickens from store, cool it, and tear all the meat off, and put in containers for later.
Get carrots, celery, onion, chop those up a little, toss them in a big pot with the bones, and skin from the chicken, then toss a few peppercorns and anything else your little heart desires(and can afford) and bring to a light boil, then toss the pot in the oven at about 200f overnight, strain and use this chicken stock as the liquid to cook your rice in, and toss the chicken meat into the rice cooker with it.

Congratulations, This is the dumbest poast /CK/ has ever seen. You can add anything to rice. Soy(i) sauce, butter, hot sauce, Tony Chachere's cajun shit, sugar, BBQ sauce, leftover gravy, my wife's bull's load, oyster sauce, grated cheese , diced meats, various fruitables, eggs, whatev3r.

>Tony's

Tried that, it was just to dry. The rice needs like a sauce or some liquid on it, just wasn't sure what to try. Butter was alright, but also not the best. I've read you can try olive oil, figured that would make it moister while adding flavor. One anon suggested chili sauce, that might work. I really do like soy sauce on white rice, but soy sauce is pretty unhealthy, guess in small amounts it'd be fine but if I plan to eat rice everyday or frequently, it might be better to try a different option. Olive oil would be healthier than soy sauce for sure, also healthier than butter.

my personal thing is that if you can manage it, keep a 'perpetual' broth. you only really have to heat it once every 24 hours, not constantly 24/7. i use an instapot for this, and i cook the meat in that. over time, you'll have free flavor for your rice. i guess this only works to extract the stuff from bones. if you have no bones, forget it.

Y-you put BBQ sauce on white rice? I might just say fuck it and go buy some damn soy sauce, I do like soy sauce on my rice and it makes it tastier, just was looking for something more flavoring or healthier I guess. Soy sauce isn't very healthy, but you can buy low sodium soy sauce and just use a small amount on the rice.

I don't know how the Japanese people eat plain white rice with nothing on it, or at least in anime they're never shown putting anything on it except maybe an egg. I never see them put seasoning or soy sauce on it.

You do know you can just buy bone broth already made, maybe it's more expensive? I don't know, but it seems more convenient to just buy it pre-made. I did read that using stock instead of water makes the rice tastier, and I suppose bone broth would be a non-fattening option. I'm not super familiar with bone broth, I know some people sip on it and use it as a meal replacement or to curb hunger.

pre-made broth is not similar to a good stock at all. The only time i found them somewhat compatible, it was like $4/pint, which is ridiculous, even considering rarity of quality product. It's like those @12 pie crusts whole foods sell. sure, they're great, but you could do the same for 1/10th the price. Some people can't be assed to actually cook, though. People have bitched that even my stock is too expensive for them, but they're the same people that will buy boullion cubes on the regular without even considering that they could save up some fat and trimmings with a little salt and herbs to make the same damned thing if they wanted to. For something you can stir fry very easily with some chopped chicken, buy some peppers which I'm surprised nobody has recommended yet. Bell peppers, Jalapenos, literally whatever, they're all cheap. Simply chop up some chicken and peppers, throw them in a pan and stir fry. You might also consider seasoning the sliced peppers with salt and whatever else and let them rest for a bit before cooking. You have spicy chicken with white rice to balance it out. Olive oil works great for it. If you don't like spicy foods, then just go for a milder pepper.
