Friend of mine banged another doe in the backwoods and since we let him on our land wants to share in the bounty.
Thing is, I'm kind of sick of backstrap as steak with sides of potatoes and veg. Or tacos. Or whatever other simple recipes.

Anyway, banged means he threw a lead slug through her vitals, possibly knocking some shoulder blades, before it limped out and died if not just falling over on the spot. Doe, as in didn't have antlers or nubs. Backstrap, as in probably the closest thing to tenderloin that you get on venison.

We thought maybe just do some stew meat with some mixed veg and potatoes with a canned crossiant crust like a pot pie. That's not really that out there, but sounds easy enough.

I usually do this with back strap but you can with other cuts.

Cut it into chunks or slices, then get a meat hammer and bang em until they're thin and soft. Proceed to fry with butter and Worcestershire sauce and salt and pepper to taste.

I've done stroganoffs with venison that turned out really well. A bourguignon-type preparation is also good. My best venison dish is roast backstrap with a blackberry compote, served over butternut squash gnocchi tossed in a brown butter/sage sauce.
