19781069 No.19781069 [Reply] [Original]

So has anyone figured out a solution to fixing the lack of taste after COVID? Almost 2 years in and I still can't taste shit. What the fuck is this miserable life. I feel like I've eaten a good share of rotten food. I can't tell unless the texture is off.
>Can't taste
>Still crave specific foods.
I'm going to jump off a building.

It's highly unusual for a ball python to develop a preference for chicken nuggets. In the wild, ball pythons eat primarily small mammals, like rodents. In captivity, they're usually fed a diet of rats or mice.

If your ball python has somehow developed a taste for chicken nuggets, it's crucial to redirect its diet back to more appropriate prey items for the sake of its health. Here's what you can try:

Fasting Period: Ball pythons can go quite a while without eating. While it's not ideal, sometimes a fasting period can reset their feeding habits. Once you present the appropriate food (like a mouse) after a period of fasting, they might be more inclined to eat it.

Scenting: Try scenting the mouse or rat with the chicken nugget. Wipe the nugget over the rodent or let the rodent sit in the same container as the nugget (without them touching) to allow the scent to transfer. This might make the rodent more appealing to the snake.

Temperature: Make sure the prey item is at the right temperature. Ball pythons use their heat-sensing pits to detect warm-blooded prey. Ensure the rodent is appropriately warmed up before offering it to the snake.

Environment: Ensure that the snake's habitat is appropriate – the right temperature gradient, humidity, and hiding spots. If a ball python doesn't feel secure, it might not eat.

Veterinarian Visit: If you can't get your snake back onto a proper diet, or if you have any concerns about its health, consult with a veterinarian who specializes in reptiles. They can offer guidance and ensure that there aren't underlying health issues.

It's essential to be patient. Snakes, especially ball pythons, can be notoriously picky eaters, but with persistence, you can usually get them back on track.

I had lost my senses for about 3 weeks but I deliberately practiced every day with scent training and also ate really highly seasoned foods, lots hot hotsauce and stuff
then one day there was a sour vinegar smell in my nose and slowly things started coming back to me

when things came back its like my sense of smell and taste is turned up to 11 now, through my daily practices they're way more acute than they ever were before and because of that my tastes have changed. I really can't tolerate slop and processed foods anymore at all

it's literal nerve damage to your smell receptors, you need to rehab them the same way you would any other injury

Immunologist here, unfortunately it's probably not going to come back. Your senses are extensions of your nervous system, i.e. neurons. Neurons don't replicate, you've got what your ever going to have and they wont regrow when some die. COVID attacked some peoples nervous system causing covid cognitive fog, lost of taste and other "long-covid" symptoms. Sorry.

In some cases, it seems to have disrupted the synapses instead of the neurons. Things fixing themselves after that isn't too weird; the dendrites and axons would still be in physical proximity. There is neurogenesis, but it's a real slow process in adults and gets slower with age.
Anosmia may spontaneously fix itself (that happened to a family member). Exact reasons why aren't well studied.
