Cooking for yourself is always cheaper. But there are tradeoffs.
You get less variety because you need to cook multiple servings. You lose way too much $ cost effectiveness if you try to make single servings.
It takes up your time. For some things you can background, and some things are super fucking simple and/or quick like eggs. But the more complicated things take time and effort to make.
It takes even more of your time because skill matters, which is trained through time and effort. Your first halfassed attempt at making a pastry is not going to be as good as your 10th attempt.

It's like fixing up the broken parts of your house versus having someone else do it for you. Yes you can save a lot of money. But it doesn't save you time.

>> No.19733270

>>19733247
The loss of variety argument is retarded, even if you cook 2-3 servings whenever you make things and you are cooking only for yourself. In the long run it gives you more options when you get good at cooking things. You might not be able to make a particular dish as well as a restaurant the first time, but you can make variations that will appeal more to your particular taste, and try different things each time, whereas the restaurant needs to appeal to as wide an audience as possible and will typically keep many items as mainstays on their menus, or slight variations that are well-suited for serving many patrons.
Sit-down restaurants also tend to try to sell you 2 servings worth of food anyway whenever you dine out, so unless you're gorging yourself at every meal and becoming a true fatass then you're going to lose variety either way when you have multiple meals.

Iunno, some food needs specialized equipment to properly make, that or an autistic amount of time and detailed work that might as well cost you a wage's worth of working hours. Ramen for instance, depending on what you're going for it could take a day+ to work on several ingredients.
Speaking of ingredients, restaurants usually serve meals that have ingredients that are difficult to get by yourself sometimes. Factoring the quality of the ingredient, even more so

It has to be a plot to get people to download their apps instead. Delivery directly from the online ordering platform of the restaurant is always cheaper than doordash, grubhub or Uber.

However, there are some restaurants that don't up charge for their food, so you rightfully only play service fees.

I never understand why some and not others, but doordash is only a rip off because it's cheaper to order delivery straight from the stores website as opposed to doordash.

When I was in college my two roommates were Doordash/Grubhub drivers to make extra money on the side. Both of them had endless stories of fucking with customers' food in gross ways. The more insane of the two had this cup he kept in the passenger door cup holder he called the "fry tax". Every time he'd deliver something with fries he'd take a couple fries out of their bag, eat one, then put the other into the cup to keep track of how many fries he'd deducted over time.
