My gf is going out of town this weekend to visit her parents so I'm planning on having a little throwback to my bachelor days. Vidya, Beer, weed and some kind of snack. What should I have? I was thinking of having steak but we have that fairly often. Maybe pizza but it's not that interesting. Bachelor's, reconnect me with my roots. What's a good bachelor chow while I game and such?

It will work with bacon but is better with smoked pork. Just buy a small ham hock, bro. Note that you have to cook the hock separately since it takes at least an hour or two to get tender at simmering heat (like pot roast or shoulder). It's going to end up being less than $5 for the hock and it's going to taste incredible.

Yes but it'll make the soup more greasy and you won't get the gelatin from the bone in a hock/ham so it'll have a more watery texture.
