IIRC it basically consists of pregnancy hormones that trick the body into thinking it's already pregnant. If you're already pregnant, then the body won't go through the process of initiating a new pregnancy, thus preventing a woman from getting pregnant after unprotected sex. But if a pregnancy has already started, then getting a dose of pregnancy hormones isn't going to make you unpregnant.
