For those who cook at home, do you have any recommendations for particular brands and/or models of temperature probes to use for general purpose cooking (e.g. water temp for egg poaching, ensuring meats have reached a particular level of done-ness, etc.)? Ideally I'd like something with a pointy metal stick that you stick into whatever it is you're measuring, that isn't going to break after a few months and also doesn't cost more than $30-35 USD. Compactness optional but appreciated since I don't want this taking up any more than a bit of drawer space. Thanks in advance for any advice.

I like that orange brand. I forget the name, but it works well, and the temp probe has a braided metal cable, so you can use it in hot ovens n shiet.

I spent about 30 bucks on a thermapro foldable probe that has a plug in live read probe and it's lasted me years. Between that and a laser temp gauge I've never needed anything else.

I have a thermopro amazon special which was like $16 and its fine. It does take a couple seconds to get a stable reading though so after a year of this one i kind of want to get the fking overpriced ass thermapen that everybody memes.

Fuck that youre the kind of guy posting dry chicken breasts "baked at 450 for 45 minutes, salted and lemoned, with rice and milk." My meat thermometer was a great purchase.

I like thermopro single probe the one that flips out and a candy thermometer the rest are useless imo I really dislike the grill one

Oven thermometer is ok, kind of a novelty toy, though i didnt realize how long it takes a broiler to preheat until i got one so it proved a little useful. But obviously if you have a probe thermometer or any other thermocouple attached to something ovensafe, you dont need an oven thermometer.
