This last week, I finished off a bottle of 2021 Donnafugata Anthilia 2021, which, quite frankly, I did not enjoy. I don't know what it was, but I found an unpleasant note on the nose that of armpit or something which was hard to ignore.

Next week, I'm planning on meatier dishes for dinner so I'm probably gonna try the 2021 Saint Cosme Cotes du Rhone. Excited for this one because it's 100% syrah, unlike the last vintages and most Rhone blends

Ricasoli Trapppola 2020
Probably not the intended way to enjoy wine, but I'm feeling like emptying the whole bottle because I really want to be drunk today.
It also tastes okay, I guess.

Wine. Ten bottles since it was all on sale (pic related is one of them). The fucking delivery driver stops at my house, doesn't get out of his truck, and then leaves. This is the second time they've failed to deliver my wine to me and now I'm PISSED.
Anyway, if you want, I can look up my order to tell you the specific wines I got.

If I can't drink the wine as-is without food pairing it's trash not worth buying.
>Make paired food
>Eat and drink
>Half bottle or whatever still left
>Tastes like crap without the food
>Oxidizes to hell until next time I make dinner so it tastes like crap even with food pairing
It's just not worth it.

>> No.19708315

>>19708297
Just buy small bottles. They're more expensive per volume, but allow you to enjoy wine without ending up with half a bottle of oxidized swill in your fridge.

>> No.19708322

>>19708315
The amount of 375ml bottles to choose from is absurdly small. Also increases the price for volume. This is not a realistic solution where I live at least.

>> No.19708335

>>19708297
Two things I'd do: first, get something like a vacu vin in order to prolong how long the stays good. Second, have uses for any oxidized wines you have. I typically add some to my pasta sauces, for example.

Had this for the second time and I have to say I really like it.

>> No.19708353

>>19708335
The first sounds like a good idea but the second.. I simply won't change my culinary rituals just to use it in some sauce or whatever. I have a few that ask for it but it's likely not going to be timed right. I guess it could sit for a long time if I don't intend to drink it directly but then I'm once again weighing in getting something I'd enjoy as is again. Especially if I can now save it for "up to" 10 days with a vacu vin.

>> No.19708388

>>19708353
May I make one more suggestion then? Have you considered purchasing wines that stay fresh for longer, such as port or sherry?

>> No.19708397

>>19708388
I mean sure, that's fine to have sitting somewhere whenever you need it. It's a much less regular occasion than dry red wines though. I can do both but the main point was to not bother with those that only really go down well with specific food pairings.

Depends of your region, but it's hard to go wrong with a cabernet if you are looking for complexity or boldness or a Grenache if you want something fruit forward and fresh.
I would recommend you to go to a wine store, what you can get in supermarkets is entry level shit.

I've been drinking natcool for a couple of years now and I only realized recently that it's a pun.

Anyway my bday is coming up and I think I'm gonna get a heavy hitter rioha, maybe why gay, someone convince me not to. The other idea would be a well aged burgundy but I'm gonna be in a flyover state when the big day happens and I have serious doubts about even getting a rioja that isn't marques de riscal so I may have to settle for a napa shitter.

>> No.19710595

>>19708445
anyone can say this about any wine, it doesn't make it true. decoy is your average overengineered mass market new world wine, carefully calibrated to appeal to boomer taste buds. if you like that sort of thing, you're lucky, because you can buy it at the worst liquor stores no problem and if they don't have it in stock there's going to be several others in stock that taste exactly like it

If you want a top notch rioja get a bottle of Viña Tondonia.
It's not cheap, It's arounf 35-40€ here in spain, but this is an iconic Rioja with a very traditional production and amazing wine to age

If you're looking for a high volume of inexpensive wine and don't care about the flavor - to the point where you'd rather have spoiled wine than a little expensive bottle. Why not just go carlo rossi? Or Bota bag.
