Does meat lose nutritional value when frozen for a while in your freezer?

Sure why not

Cellular degradation still occurs while at freezing temperatures but not enough to have any appreciable nutrional change in a reasonable amount of time.

>reasonable amount of time.
What would that mean? Like, I usually tend to buy a few kilos of meat if its on a sale in the local supermarket, I think for example I have some pork shoulder thats been in my freezer for like 3 months now.
Also, I've considered just buying a whole or at least half a pig or a cow from this family friend farm owners, will I be fine just sticking it in the freezer and having meat for whole year without it losing much nutrition?

Any water soluble vitamins, sure.
But fat soluble vitamins and minerals should be okay.

Keep in mind I'm a HVAC tech, not a science man, so I could very well be wrong about everything

You can freeze meat for years, it's just going to get progressively shittier in texture and flavour

>> No.19678436

I know this is true, but in my experience it gets 80% shittier after one day, and then edges up over the course of a year to 100%. Maybe I just suck at thawing though or something.

How the fuck does your meat get 80% worse after being frozen for one day, are you thawing it by pissing on it?

>> No.19678453

Not directly, no, I reserve it in a bowl and then soak the meat. Tangy!

If you don't mind the horrible taste of freezer burn, years upon years. Vacuum pack and keep a consistent freezing temperature and you'll be fine. At worst you get freezer burn.

you want to freeze them as fast as possible.
that means put your freezer at max a few hours before you put in meat.
remember that if you put several kilos of meat at once in it, this is going to make the freezing process much slower, and this is not good. (check the freezer's manual, it should say how many kilos you can put at once)
Also, try to remove as much surface wetness from your meat before you put it in your freezer.
some like to also vaccumseal the meat. this is also a texture killer.
Also, you need to know how to thaw the meat. this should always be done in the fridge, or somewhere quite cold like a fridge. This should be done slowly.
just follow those advices, and I guarantee the meat will suck less. It still is going to be frozen meat so it's never going to be like something never frozen, but it can be quite close

>Keep in mind I'm a HVAC tech, not a science man,
Gotta disagree with you there.
HVAC does require science, and the ability to parse scientific info.
You should have the ability to read papers on the subject and understand them--or at least have the ability to look further into the aspects you don't understand...until you do.
Don't sell yourself short, anon.
Also, as pertains to meat, since the actual breaking down of nutrients is often done in tandem with your gut flora,(some of which is IN the meat,) and freezing only slows down but doesn't stop degradation of the original cells, I'd have to think that a little bit of rot,(breakdown,) would actually facilitate bio-availability of nutrients.
It's the foods that WON'T rot you should be worried about.

Cellular degradation occurs when freezing and thawing so it happens twice
The best meat is fresh never frozen
After that you have blast freezer, as the meat has least time to be damaged in the freezing process
After this you may well have everyday freezing where the time it takes to freeze in a household freezer with somewhat damaged the integrity of the original freshness, repeated thawing isn't going to any righteous favors
Taco shops the good ones know to stay fresh never frozen whenever possible

no not even a little.

it will start to go rancid after about 1 year. but no it will not lose any nutrition.
