You can remove or change dose on simple syrup to radically alter the nature of the drink because of how fernet's flavor profile changes with sweetness. With less sweetness it's more licorice/minty, with more sweetness the tobacco notes will come out.

I made my own mint tincture using Everclear and some leaves I picked from my mint plant, which I filled a jar with and let sit for 3 months. It was the most beautiful color. I would also mix it with 1 part tincture and 2 parts water with the most sugar that would dissolve to make creme de menthe a few times too

We don't have many options here in AL. Pernod, Absente, and Lucid are the only ones I've seen. Absente works OK in frappes, but not at all in a drip. Lucid works better on drip, but really, it's too strong for most cocktails I've tried it in. I haven't bought Pernod. I hardly know what to do with the two bottles of absinthe I own now.
