Anyone ever get pre-made fried chicken from their grocery store? Which stores have the best and worst fried chicken?

I used to get the fried chicken from Albertson's as a kid. I don't know if it was actually good or not, but I grew up eating cheap food and liked it at the time. We would buy it and eat it during picnics by the creek. Tried some cold Nugget fried chicken today (reheated it). Passable, but only so-so.

it kinda varies from store to store, regardless of what name is on the front. when the staff cares about it and it’s fresh, it can be pretty good, otherwise it’s mediocre to bad

It's a hell of alot better and cheaper than KFC.

I work in a grocery store and it's better quality than kfc but those 11 herbs and spices make the diffrence. I wish I was less worried about making own.

I agree with this, better than KFC but the stuff I had today was pretty bland. KFC has gone downhill massively since the 90s, at least how I remember it. Used to actually be pretty good.

Also, grocery store mac-n-cheese and potato wedges. I like to use the potato wedges as a spoon to eat the mac-n-cheese.

Basically, grocery store fried chicken, mac-n-cheese and potato wedges are almost as good as KFC was in the 90's.

It's all about timing. A lot of stores cook a fuck ton of fried chicken at like 9:30-10am and keep selling it deep into the afternoon.

Only buy it if it's fresh out of the fryer or has under 30 min of heatlamp time

Thought so. All the Albertsons stores closed by me decades ago, so I wasn't sure if I was just remembering it as good because I was a kid. Haven't had it since then.

Albertsons had addicting hot wings. They weren't spicy, but they weren't wet. The sauce was baked on or something, probably too long under the lamps, loved 'em.
For fried chicken, Winn-Dixie is a'ight. Publix always tastes burnt, except for the tenders/spicy tenders which are pretty up there.
Walmart ranch wings, winn-dixie salt n vinegar wings are great. Recently found out Publix does "mardi gras" wings but you have to call an hour ahead. 10 pieces cost me $9.9X after tax but was worth it.

From my experience:
Walmart - Incredibly dry. Almost no seasoning. Nuggets were on par with cafeteria food.
Kroger - Extremely greasy and salty. Almost no seasoning, either.
Vons - Seasoned and tasty. Good crunch and balanced.

Sounds like it's the same as Safeway and Albertsons which are all owned by the same company. It is indeed very good fried chicken along with the jojo wedges. The tenders are usually a bit too dry and chewy, though.

Yes. I have a walmert nearby and i've gotten their $8 for 8 pieces (two drumsticks, two thighs, two wings and two breasts) and its always really good. Then i save the bones in the freezer along with onion skins and eventually i make homemade chicken broth by boiling them

i love indian food but the local indian grocery doesnt have shelf stable curries that i like. I went to an indian grocery in the city and got $70 worth of groceries (mostly curries and spice mixes with some frozen meals) and the indian cashier was asking me about the indian food i liked and i told him i like the shelf stable stuff but also make my own and i like his collection of shelf stable curry when my local indian grocery doesnt have it. This meme is unironically real. I've been to the kebab shop in my neighbourhood like 4 or 5 times in the last year and the guy who owns it and works there like 12 hours a day remembers my name, my order and always says hello to me when I walk past the shop. Any of the times I've been there when he had help from a family member, he would tell them what I assume means "don't be stingy with the meat" in his Pajeet language and the kebab is always too full to eat without a fork.

Yes, stop&shop has amazing fried chicken. Chads in my region know. They have a real pressure fryer back there and do it the right way.
