One of the most common drinks in Jamaica is called a Wray & Ting, a mix of that rum and Ting grapefruit soda. Ting is hard to get in the states depending on where you live, but if you have access to like a Jarritos or some other Mexican grapefruit soda they're nearly equivalent. Mix with lime and the rum and its pretty refreshing.

Rum has a history of being very high proof, unlike any other spirit you drink straight unless you count whisky, but it traditionally wasn't that much higher than it is today, unlike rum. The vast majority of gin's I've had were 40% on the dot, and the ones that were higher were only slightly, like 42%.
