This is the thread for non Americans to inquire unto Murican slop. Anything from sloppa to fine dining, disgusting snacks to top tier bbq, and everything in between.
I'll even start. I've many friends from all over the globe, and far too many of them didnt even know what an avocado is. The best I can explain it is that it's a fruit, but every one of us dipshits call it a vegetable. It's sort of hard to explain, but an avocado tastes more or less like a lightly green flavored vegetable, but with butter. It's the "fattiest" fruit I've ever had, and has a "creamy" texture to boot. They go fantastically in most savory/salty dishes.
My favorite use for avocados is to cube them into small pieces to toss into my pico de Gallo, I which is a "salad" used as a condiment consisting mostly of onion and tomato. It's a Hispanic thing, and goes great with pretty much any meat, even fish.

Pray tell foreign Anons, what Murican slop have you been interested in? I myself as well as some other patriots would love to share our food with you.

The last time I've seen a thread like this was when Anons were talking about breakfasts, and someone posted biscuits & gravy, an American classic. It was pretty cool seeing other Anons giving it a try and posting feedback, saying it's as tasty as it looks gross.
I think even that one Aussie poster tried it and liked it

i wish i knew what twinkies tasted like
we have the turkish topkek here (a cupcake) and it looks similar in texture, like a moist spongecake but fuck if i know if it's the same.

i also wish i knew what scallops tasted like. are they fishy like fish? slightly less fishy like crab? chewy like calamari or octopus? flakey like fish?

Turkbro!
I've never had topkek, but from what I understand, it tastes like chemicals just as Twinkies do. You're really not missing out on them, I assume Twinkies taste more like cleaning chemicals than topkek. Twinkies have no shelf life, they last forever with how many artificial preservatives are in the damned things.

As for scallops, have you ever eaten clams? Scallops taste like a fattier clam, samilar texture too. My favorite shellfish has always been mussels. Absolutely delicious

>> No.19609954

>>19609935
scallops are a lot like crab, but a bit firmer - not flaky like fish. twinkies are basically a very light, sweet yellow cake/sponge cake filled with cream-type sugary filling. delicious, spongy, and wholly unsatisfying.
>>19609933
i've explained B&G to a brit before, and it takes them a bit to understand how it would be good, because to them it sounds like sweet cookies with brown gravy on top.

Oh, and when it comes to American snack cakes, I recommend pic related over hostess. My favorite is the peanut butter chocolate bars with the crispy wafers. They pair perfectly with tea or coffee.

I had a hell of a time explaining biscuits & gravy to my bongistani friends too. It helps if you explain it as a pork sausage gravy(with all the meat in) poured over scones or popovers even. THEN they get it.

mostly it tastes like preservatives. you could try making some spongecake at home to get an approximation but it would actually be too good to taste "right"

This
You could, as Anon said, make some sponge cake and fill it with super sugary whipped cream, but it won't taste like an actual Twinky unless you add a splash of bleach & punesol to it

Oh, and pine-sol is an American cleaning product. It smells like pine needles and lemon, but it tastes nothing like how it smells.
Trust me, I used to be a very stupid child.

Honestly theyre not good. Better off just eating spongecake. The cream is just pure sugar. The sugar throughout the whole Twinkie has a chemical taste.

tell me about gumbo pls

>> No.19610016

>>19610004
gumbo is what happens when you're down in new orleans catching a jazz festival. it's a thick, spicy stew with sausage/shrimp/chicken and veggies (normal soup/stock veggies, plus okra) with cajun-type seasoning. a good gumbo is really good, but it's the kind of thing you don't want to get at a chain restaurant, get it somewhere they'll put some effort into it (goes for cajun food in general)

My kinsman, I've no idea how you've not already had biscuits & gravy. As far as I know, and as far as I've traveled across the states, I've never seen a fellow Murican that didn't like him some biscuits & gravy.
I'm born and raised from western Washington, but mhalf my senpai comes from Minnesota. Even here down south in SC, everyone loves biscuits & gravy.
Where are you from, where you've never had?
Not trying to shit on you, I'm just curious

I'm from north CA and been to a lot of diners around the state. I'm sure some places serve it, but I've never actually seen it in real life.
I'm not a picky eater and have eaten some gnarly shit in SF chinatown like live octopus. I will one day, but I'd rather the accident happen rather than seek it out... I have a difficult time overcoming the aesthetic of the vomit a dog makes after drinking a carton of curdled milk over toast. Also no offence.

Ah, I gotchu. I've lived in the San Fran area myself, and noticed a lot of people weren't into biscuits and gravy.
It helps to understand what it actually is though. Just preseasoned breakfast sausage fried in a pan til it's cooked, then with some flour, cream and pepper.
I have a hard time understanding how anyone wouldn't like it, but I still respect your pov.
It's one of those things where once you suck it up and actually try it, you'll love it.
For me, I had a similar problem with sour cream.
