All the time, I look at expiration dates so I may as well check other aspects.

The only things I buy in the middle isles are usually snacks (which I know are bad for me anyways) or things like jam, pickled items, canned veggies, beans etc. Otherwise everything else is fresh produce, meat, dairy, and my bread comes from a local bakery down the road from me.

It's cheaper. In the UK it's what they'd call a "non-brewed condiment" since the term vinegar can only be applied to acetic acid produced by bacteria. Is it dangerous? Probably not, but it's not what I'd call a marker of quality.

If it's not an unprocessed ingredient or a protein I check it just to see what fillers they put in it. The "store brand" is usually the worst offender in this regard. I have no idea why this is even legal
