are microwave dinners cost-effective compared to buying cheap ingredients to cook with?

The problem with microwave meals is that it tries to treat things as uniform which aren't uniform. Can you make decent meals that can store in the freezer for ages and then be reheated in the microwave? Yes. Can you turn every meal into something that will freeze well and be reheated well in the microwave? If you pay me enough money I'll lie to you and make something that tastes kind of like the meal you want.

I found a few of these for $0.75, about 75% off.

If you don't mind your food tasting like shit. Once you start buying the nicer ones you may as well just cook it yourself provided you have the time

No. Your standard priced microwave TV dinner is going to be more expensive than making shit yourself, and it is guaranteed to be terrible. The stuff you make might be terrible.

Tiny bit of frozen veggies, a fake meat patty, a microwave brownie, and some potato puree. All of this is easily beaten with higher volumes, even if you stoop to using frozen mixed veggies and other frozen fake meat patties.

>>19576520
Stuff on sale, like this, IS hard to beat though. You aren't putting together anything lower than that price point, no matter the struggle meal.

5 bucks for a single meal is not a good deal at all. A pound of pinto beans at Kroger is $1.50. a single onion is 75 cents. I can get a 10 pack of tortillas for $2.25. For $4.50 I can make ten burritos. Add $3, and now they're being in cheese burritos. Enough to last me for the week.

I can pick up a 5 lb bag of flour for $5. a pound of lard for $2.50, and half a pound of baking powder for $3. That and salt and I can make a hundred tortillas.

10 burritos might last me two or three days.

No. The cheapest ones are a dollar for a small portion, two of which are not only not filling but also not nutritious. Meanwhile, with $2 worth of ingredients, I can cook a chicken thigh (50¢) in sauerkraut gravy (35¢) with butter braised carrots (20¢), garlic sauteed spinach (45¢) and rye toast (40¢).
