Needing medication to live is different than having the choice between eating meat and not eating meat. Vegans are against animal testing even in cases of life-saving medicine and support developments in medicine that don't involve animal cruelty, but that doesn't mean that a vegan wouldn't take the only option they have now in order to live. People will always choose their own lives over the lives of other animals, even other humans, but in cases where we can prevent this, we should not aid in the deaths of animals unnecessarily like for example for taste pleasure. The person who said that probably meant she wasn't okay with it but she still took the medication because she needed it to live.

Veganism is the philosophical position that exploitation of and cruelty to sentient beings is ethically indefensible and should be avoided whenever it is possible and practicable to do so. Vegans themselves do not claim this position is absolute nor do they strive for perfection. Rather, the accusation that vegans fail to be vegan because they cannot be perfect is an external one imposed by people who do not understand veganism.
The term 'vegan' is defined as "a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude — as far as is possible and practicable — all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of humans, animals and the environment. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals." The meaning of the word 'vegan' excludes the possibility of perfection, and vegans themselves understand they cannot hold their philosophical position absolutely. However, this understanding in no way prevents them from making significant, positive changes in the world by choosing not to harm other sentient beings when and where they can. Clearly, anyone who makes this same decision is 100% perfect in their veganism.

>where they break down why their form of hypocrisy/where they draw the line is okay
Except I didn't ever say animal testing was OK. I said vegans who need medication to live which might have involved animal testing will take it before dying, and that taking life-saving medication is not at all comparable to eating meat/dairy/eggs just because you think it tastes good. Those same vegans will likely also be pushing against animal testing and towards developments where animals are no longer needed to acquire the medication they need to live.
>these same people will take insulin but not approve of honey.
Because people require insulin to live while consuming honey is completely unnecessary. Like I said before, people will always value their lives, even above other humans, but the question of eating meat isn't a matter of life and death, it's a choice, and eating animals/dairy/honey is unnecessary to live.

Compare that to your average vegan diet that is eaten over many months. You're daily chia bowl and green smoothie alone kills more sentient beings in that time period than i will ever eat in my lifetime. because the dairy industry is arguably more fucked up than the meat one. they keep a sensitive, sentient being in a near constant cycle of impregnation and tear it's child away from it at birth. i used to work on a dairy farm and it's what made me go vegan in the first place, and we weren't even nearly as bad as the factory farm ones, we were a relatively small supplier in upstate new york.

i understand and support veganism 100% but after 14 years i gave up. i moved to asia and it's so nonexistent and excludes you socially here so badly that it's not even worth it, i just try to avoid animal products when i can but when i'm out i just eat normally. i cant take the burden anymore. i try to avoid sweatshop clothes too.

all you can do is TRY. it shouldn't be an identity, it should be a consumer habit to avoid things that contribute to suffering. another reason i gave up is to not be associated with those insufferable faggots. i agree with their sentiments 1000% but why is it that every single one of them is some lanky, whiny, depressing, weirdo hippy fuck? ever vegan meet up i went to, every vegan restaurant i worked for, they were always the most insufferable fucking weirdos.

the last vegan restaurant i worked at is what made me quit. the owner was some old washed up dude from some local punk band, was an absolute fucking creep and always talking about psychedelics and polyamory and other degenerate new age shit and i just couldn't take it anymore. i don't want to be associated with people like that. now i just eat anything and i try to avoid eating meat at home or when cooking for others, and when anyone comments on my vegetable intake i just mention that i like animals so i try to do my part.

I can't, I'm French, it's everywhere. It's not just about dairy, it's about ingredients you don't even think about unless you look up the actual recipe that are put in some dishes like oyster oil or sauce in some Asian dishes or beef or pork gelatin in some candies and pastries, things like restaurants using the grease from previous dishes that includes meat being used to prepare other dishes to not damage the pan, etc. Don't get me started on the nutriments you need to get from somewhere else because it's mostly found in meat. I have the misfortune of coming from a Muslim family and my mother and a sibling insist on eating halal food and they pay attention to these details while not minding eating fish, seafood or dairy and it's already annoying enough, I assume being vegan is the same but worth.

I'll never became a vegan just because I follow a balanced diet but I still have health issues and feel weak, sometimes I pass out from hypoglycemia or low blood pressure because of my growth hormone deficiency. I technically don't have this disorder anymore because I followed a treatment as a child and it worked but I still have this issue with hypoglycemia. Nothing as horrible as when it happens to diabetics but still. I've always been skinny and I know not eating meat anymore would make me look like a skeleton as well. However I totally understand where you're coming from. The source of the issue is that the demand is way too high because we're too many people on earth.

>i moved to asia and it's so nonexistent and excludes you socially here so badly that it's not even worth it
I only lived in Japan for 6 months and recently went back because of holidays but I'm not surprised at all. On the other hand in Japan and it seems in other Asian countries as well there seems to be a lot of vegetarians so I guess it could be worse. It's obviously because of buddhism and hinduism.

>i try to avoid sweatshop clothes too.
>it should be a consumer habit to avoid things that contribute to suffering
I'm very careful with the clothes I buy, I try to avoid plastic as much as possible because I have skin problems and it's just horribly polluting. I bought a lot of clothes recently in stores, and from now I'll try to mostly buy stuff on Vinted and in thrift stores. But I have a preference for leather handbags because they're very solid and I plan to just keep them for as long as possible and repair them if they get damaged. I need to learn how to sew actually, just in case.

The highest low-evidence-supported rate increase of cancer from having a diet high in red meat belongs to colon cancer and it amounts to a grand total of 6% increase.
Not "+6%" but "6% increase", i.e. if your chance of developing colon cancer throughout your life is 10%, having a diet high in red meat will increase it to 10.6%.

This is literally nothing. Any attempt to "reduce health risks" by diminishing or removing red meat from the diet is counterproductive, as the minuscule (and still low evidence) decrease in chance of getting a specific type of cancer is more than overshadowed by the increased risks coming from having a more complex, thus stressful diet, not getting enough nutrients in general, etc.

Eat your meat. Drink your milk.

As a vegan, if someone abstained from meat and dairy fully and the only animal product they consumed was eggs from chickens not raised to produce eggs, I'd be fine with it I guess. Of course they wouldn't be vegan, because eggs are still animal flesh. You wouldn't be eating that many eggs though as wild chickens only lay about 15 a year. The problem with eggs is the egg industry. Male chicks are shredded (picrel) as they're useless to egg production and commercial female chickens are bred to lay up to 300 eggs a year while wild chickens only lay around 15 eggs a year. Mass production of eggs can never be ethical. That's just going into the ethics of it, not including the health related problems with eggs.

This exactly. Vegans simply do not love food. They forget to eat, they never eat for pleasure, and they eat very little which is how they rationalize spending so much money at co-op grocers and Whole Foods markets. They're a specific kind of person, very fastidious, certainly liberal. They don't wear deodorant, they dress in hemp. They visit "apothecaries". They probably make pottery in a little area with a radio always on NPR. They steam foods regularly. They prefer Chai tea to coffee. They buy the raw, unsalted nuts that don't taste good. They likely stopped eating gluten as soon as everyone else did. I live amongst them and I dislike most of their traits except arts. I respect them for never voting GOP. I want to eat foix gras while they watch. I want them to smell my cigarettes and be offended.

I'm not trying to "dissuade" anyone with anything kek, if you're naturally disgusted by what meat and dairy are (breast milk and animal corpses) then that's your normal disgust response and you're blaming me, the messenger for it. The thing is, people are NOT naturally disgusted by the aroma of cooking meat or melted cheese or ice cream. It's a totally LEARNED response; nature vs. nurture.

If your hippie mom brought you up pleading the cases of the cute little bunnies then you were taught to be grossed out by meat, but it's certainly not "natural", no matter how badly you wish it were.

Even vegans need to force themselves to be disgusted. The smell of roasting meat is desirable to all. They need to remind themselves to equate delicious meat with rotting, foul carcasses on the side of the road covered with maggots in order to be properly "repulsed". It's all pretend but they forgot that long ago. Then they come here with their language and try and convince all of us normal humans that we SHOULD be revolted by animal products, but of course it falls on both deaf ears and angry responses. People don't like being patronized by righteous faggots spouting superiority.

You lose and will continue to lose as it has always been. And I can tell you from experience, cooks and chefs WILL sneak meat juices or anything else you don't want into your "vegan" dishes if you raise a big gay scene at the restaurant. It's totally harmless for you and everyone has a nice chuckle. Better than spit.

>> No.19579462

>>19579343
I am definitely disgusted by meat and always have been, even when I was forced to eat it at a young age. Dairy is less disgusting when we're young because humans somewhat still have a tolerance for breast milk until a certain age, but as we grow up, we grow out of it and naturally become lactose intolerant. Regardless, people ARE naturally disgusted by what it takes to get meat - images, sounds or videos of animals being killed for the sake of consumption.
You act like it's one or the other, and not that you, being as rude as you are, deserve an explanation, but I was taught the opposite - to accept consuming meat as natural and necessary. I still thought meat - the texture and taste of it, especially after seeing raw, uncooked meat be cooked and prepared - was disgusting, even before I knew of the entire process of raising and killing animals to eat their dead bodies.
It's interesting how you associate "carcasses" (what meat products are) with "rotting and foul with maggots" when I never included any of that in what I said. I just said that meat is animal carcasses, which it is. You made those associations yourself, which is indicative of your own disgust response to animal carcasses and meat in general. You need to stop projecting and blaming vegans for YOUR OWN disgust response to the word "carcass."
YOU are the one coming into vegan threads to try to tell vegans that vegan food is gross, dumbass. Meat eaters constantly invade vegan threads to quell their own guilt and perhaps disgust at themselves for eating meat. If you don't like vegan food, get the fuck out then. It's YOU who is desperately trying to convince people that eating dead animals somehow "less disgusting" than eating pea protein, nuts, soy, tofu etc. And you're never going to do that because it isn't.

>> No.19579649

>>19579462
No, you're full of shit. You're backpedaling on your bad faith argument strategy. Your vegan threads are unwelcome here, which is why you notice there's not a lot of other vegans here chiming in and supporting you. You're here PUSHING your veganism. But it's the way you do it that's lacking integrity. You're the one projecting. You're assuming that you're the "natural" majority in all this and that all the meat eaters are are the ones deluding themselves and trying to overcome this "natural" disgust that none of them have. You're suggesting veganism is The Way, and the rest of us are doing something wrong. Carcass is an acceptable word. Corpse is not. Play all the fucking semantics you want (you always do), but the "rotting maggots" talk is just extending what you're attempting by using the word "corpses" so often. YOU are trying to equate the death and deadness and "remind" us of it in order to shame us and "help" us realize that we should be disgusted like you are. Yes, we willfully ignore gross footage of the slaughter. Why wouldn't we? It's not appetizing. You guys always want us to confront that so that we may join you. We want meat and we don't want to think about it.
And WTF are you on about again with this pea protein? It sure doesn't sound appetizing, but I've said nothing to disparage it because I've never heard of it. And again, you conclude with the stance that your vegan diet is objectively preferable to "dead animals", which is in bad faith because as you are well aware, vegans are a tiny minority. You're lying by suggesting that I'm failing to convince people that eating animal products is preferable. The VAST MAJORITY of us are NOT VEGANS! So how can you justify your last paragraph? You're not even the majority IN a fucking vegan thread! Let alone the world. You're engaged in make-believe when you flip it around and smugly shake your head at how 95% of the population is eating meat despite being disgusted by it and feeling guilty about it.

I made some vegan pesto fettuccine for my vegan friends the other day, I'm not vegan but I respect y'all. Never giving up my sardines and mackerel but I rarely ever eat beef and I have lots of meatless days. This was just my plate, theirs were plated a little better with a nice basil sprig garnish. I really think the nutritional yeast does a great job mimicking the flavor profile you would normally get from the Parmigianino. And pistachios are way better than pine nuts for pesto IMHO.

Nope. Behind closed doors there's no such thing as a true vegan. You fuckers bend the rules all the time because it's delicious and you can't resist and the world doesn't cater to you. Rationalize it however you need to in your mind, but you're enjoying delicious animals every week and we all know it.

Cry about it harder, faggot. Vegans will always exist and this is the food board, we have a right to have a thread for us. The fact that you feel personally affronted means you believe the world should revolve around you. Sorry, it doesn't.
Also KEK at this admission
>Yes, we willfully ignore gross footage of the slaughter. Why wouldn't we? It's not appetizing.
>We want meat and we don't want to think about it.
So it is cognitive dissonance and projecting, that's what all of it is. Maybe someday when you actually have to watch your food being made or god forbid even obtain the food you eat yourself by killing the animal yourself (it's natural!), you'll become one of us. That sounds awful. Chickpeas and gram flour overpower everything you add them too. They're only good in savory dishes and still with lots of lemon and herbs.

More concerning all of your protein intake is just that handful of chickpeas and peanut butter. That's not enough. If you want to go vegan than you need to eat like a cup of lentils or mung beans a day. 1.5 cups of chickpeas would be adequate. Half a cup of peanut butter would also be fine but that seems like a lot. Tofu is actually pretty low in protein by comparison and you need to eat like a pound a day to meet your protein needs.

You missed the point. No one based their diet off of what people they despise eat. Don't be a retard. The point was that you people claiming to be vegans are less than 1% of the population. Only a very specific type of person goes out of their way to be ultra careful making sure they never ingest anything that could have involved an animal (because it's "CRUEL"). Poor people will eat whatever they can. But most of them go to fucking McDonalds. I wish they'd cook from scratch too. But when they do their eating of beans and rice and oats is incidental. They buy some meat and stretch it as far as they can. They surely eat eggs. Eggs are dirt cheap for protein. They may be vegetarian by accident, but not vegan. Not in the USA. There are maybe 100,000 of you total. Keep trying to recruit. And keep posting lists of vegan foods you ate as if you're not just one guy. There aren't dozens of vegans chiming in here, it's just you.

LOL, 'your threads'. Hilarious. Nine out of ten posts here are negative, and every single vegan thread is fraught with arguments and name calling. It's always going to be an uphill battle. Just like in real life. You simply don't have the numbers. And you also have a very assertive and preachy way of making your points which pisses everyone off even more. It's bad enough that you think you're objectively better people than meat eaters, you don't need to shame us. It doesn't work. No one's ever been bullied into giving up delicious animal products.
You're just like right-to-life fags. It's simply baby murder to them and they see no differentiation between a woman taking an abortion pill the day she finds out she's knocked up and a madman slicing a person's throat open and dancing in the blood; both need to be locked up.
Every fucking vegan thread you make, we will be there to laugh at you and promote meat-eating. Go to some forum where the moderators will back you up and delete all the naysayers. Go somewhere you can have your closed circle with other vegans where dissenting commenters are banned. That's not 4chan. You've come to a place of free speech and started throwing around unpopular opinions; you should expect exactly the warm welcome you always receive, it's the one you deserve. Weak, anemic, pasty hippie hipster faggots.
