The burger is the greatest American invention

>> No.19566521

>>19566506
actually, the burger was invented by the mauritian scientist kwamé kukuwaza in 1837. the recipe was stolen from him by an english juniper merchant during a game of backgammon shortly before the outbreak of the first world war. he then brought it to the usa and cashed in on a black man's invention.

how do i get my american cheese to look like that

am i putting it on too late so it doesn't melt enough?

>> No.19566539

>>19566526
Either that or it's cut too thick (or you're using cheese that's not treated with sodium citrate). As disgusting as it is in other applications, I find Velveeta Americheese is the best for burgers and my local favourite burger joint agrees (I got the idea there when I happened to notice packages of sliced Velveeta through the kitchen door). Real cheese is great and I love it, but cheeseburgers basically need the sodium citrate stuff.

The amount of people who DON'T know this shocks me.
Safeway and Kroger both stock something like this in the deli. It's always very cheap, usually 4 slices for 4 patties is like $1.75. If you want it to melt 100%, get them to slice it at a "1" thickness, and then double your slices up.

Wow you're really overpaying. Walmart sells the American cheese for like $7.50/lb so you're paying $10/lb but not getting very good or fresh cheese. Also "organic" with American cheese is 100% irrelevant, because often times the premium deli brands will use milk that is higher quality but isn't organic. (local farms, non-homogenized, is better than industrial organic)
At least you know now. The other stuff doesn't melt as well because it's been exposed to air individually and then more plastics as well.

Unless you have a slicer at home why would you buy a giant block of cheese? Just get the guy at the deli to slice it for you and get what you need.

My only concern would be what if they use a slicer they used for something like raw meat that had some sort of illness on it

the hamburger was imported by German immigrants to the US in the 19th century, the cheeseburger derivative however is probably American.
the hotdog bun is American but uses German frankfurters. the corn dog, similar story,
corn dogs are better than hotdogs btw.
its like how you took a bunch of Nazi scientists in after WW2 to get to the moon.

I find that buttering the bun/bread (or using mayo) and pressing it into a dish of shredded cheese butter-side-down gets the perfect amount of cheese onto your would-be burger/sandwich so that's what I do from time to time. It's especially good for grilled/fried cheese sandwiches.
