I need a pressure cooker for mah beans, I was hesitating between what op's showing or an instant pot....

Never used an instant pot, but from what I understand, it's weaker than an actual pressure cooker. Nevertheless, the instant pots also allow you to do slow cooking and whatnot with their settings, so if you're someone who likes those types of meals, it may be of use to you.

It's retard proof though. You just set it and forget it. I'm not sure where you're getting that it's somehow "weaker" than other pressure cookers, what are you trying to cook exactly? You can't deep fry chicken in it like colonel sanders, if that's what you're getting at.

If you don't want the hassle of watching the pot and have the space then just get the instant pot. There isn't anything you can't do in it that you can do in a standard pressure cooker. Pressure frying as mentioned isn't getting done in either. Just don't be a dipshit and buy some bottom of the bucket unit and don't believe the hype that it's life changing. It's a fucking electric pressure cooker.

That said, I prefer to use a regular pressure cooker. Got a set of Kuhn-Rikon pots I've been using for nearly 20 years and outside of replacing the valve it still works like a champ. But the instant pot is useful when you don't want to be bothered...

They'e done tests on it, electronic pressure cookers take more time doing the same thing because they aren't as powerful.

Also, don't pressure fry anything on either one, they're not designed for that.

I have a Ninja Foodi and have pressure cooked beans in it a few times, but for some reason not all of the beans are fully cooked at the end. Some are perfect, others are still pretty hard.

All pressure cookers are different PSI
Most are around 15 but some are 18 and the smaller instant pot is around 8 I think.
Has nothing to do with power as in the heating element , just what the pressure relieve valve is set to

Try carnitas. 35mins. Pork shoulder. Cumin, Mexican Oregano, few pieces of garlic, S&P, Mexican Coke.

Are they really a hazard? Seems to me like all the explosions are caused by cheap chink pots or retarded people overfilling and never changing the rubber seals

>> No.19551974

>Are they really a hazard?
The hazard lies in the user.

All you need to do is clean the orifices and make sure you don't overfill nor let them dry out (i.e. burn food), because they do explode, but that's it. At least 95% of accidents are caused by user error.

What's so good about these? My gf made cous-cous in it and I tought it was mid, no better than using a normal pot and pans.

>> No.19552266

Just make sure that you DO NOT ever leave a conventional pressure cooker unattended. It's very easy to accidentally turn a pressure cooker into an explosion

That's why most people should just get an Instant Pot or equivalent electronic pressure cooker because they are made to be as idiot proof as possible. Literally set and forget

It's a way to cook things quickly while still having them come out with the same texture as if you had spent more time cooking it

but to go into more details, water at sea level atmospheric pressure boils at around a 100 degrees Celsius or 212 degrees Fahrenheit. When water boils its temperature cannot go any higher than the boiling point. Inside the pressure cooker, water boils and creates steam, since the steam can't escape the pressure increases, the boiling point moves up as well as the temperature and as a result, food cooks faster.

I've never used a pressure cooker-- what do you mean, don't leave it unattended?

I would never leave the house with the oven or stove on. But that's just common sense. Do you mean not to leave the kitchen? Or to check on it every 2-3 minutes?

It's clear what makes it dangerous-- they confine high pressure and higher than boiling temperatures together. But what is a sign that something is about to go wrong before it catastrophically explodes?

Don't worry to much about that. Modern pressure cookers have pressure release valves.

Right. But what is meant by "attending". If I had to guess, either this pressure cooker wasn't properly maintained and serviced by having the pressure release tested, or I suppose it could have been defective, but what would "attending" to it have done to prevent this?
