I was not aware there is a raging culture war of people who refuse to stop washing meat (chicken mainly but some additionally say beef) even when they are told why they don't need to.

I didn't know about that either.
I empathize with people who insist on washing chicken. We evolved to have strong feelings about okay versus not-okay food. So even if a trustworthy source explains that it's unnecessary - and actually sprays bacteria all over your kitchen - the lizard-brain feelings remain and it's really hard to stop washing it.

theres a segment of the black community insanely militant about weird hygeine shit, they only use name brand walmart cleaning products and think anything else is unsanitary. then they peer pressure everyone else into it. you dont want to be the one black guy in a group who doesn't wash his chicken, so you either lie and say you wash your chicken, or you start washing your chicken because everyone else does

Observe SEA or African meat being moved from farm to market and all will be revealed. Hint: it's on a scoother, open air, and driven by a 15 year old with shit getting on the meat per mile essentially. On the flip side of this, though is the meat was killed probably an hour ago. Which makes it delicious.

So, people who come from these regions wash their meat. I took cooking classes in Vietnam and Cambodia and the numba #1 holy shit stop the show is wash the meat you get from the market. Soak it, get the dirty shit off of it.
