What did you start eating when you were 11 to replace the all-to-simple cheese sandwich

I didn't start enjoying them until I was 20 years old and a girl made one for me in my dorm.

(2) slices of white bread, square loaf, not round top
(1) medium thick slice of deli American cheese or Kraft single
Spread bread slices with mayo on one side.
Melt 1 tbsp butter and coat carbon steel pan with the butter on medium low heat
Place (1) piece of bread mayo side down in pan and lay cheese on top
Place second piece of bread mayo side up on top of cheese
After a few minutes, flip entire sandwich over with spatula using the off hand to keep top piece of bread in place to cook other side.
Continue flipping until golden crispy on the outside and cheese is melted inside.
Remove from pan and cut sandwich across into two pieces diagonally. Cutting any other way or not cutting at all will ruin the sandwich rendering it inedible.

There are other sandwiches that are similar, maybe subjectively better, equal or worse. But this recipe is for a true grilled cheese. Any deviation and it's not the real thing.

That's a grilled cheese made from a loaf of bread I baked myself with a starter I cultivated myself. Fuck off with your armchair alpha shit cooklets.

I prefer tuna melts.
>take a couple of slices of european white bread
>drain the brine of a can of tuna on them (optional, I love the taste of it but turns the bread mushier)
>spread mayo on the bread
>put on the drained tuna
>squeeze a lemon on the tuna
>grate gouda cheese on top until everything is covered
>put the slices into the broiler and bake them until the cheese starts browning
Takes like 3 minutes to assemble and much better than a simple grilled cheese on its own. Grilled cheese is superior for dunking it in a soup, though. Two slices, spread some butter on them, put sharp cheddar between them, fry on the stovetop.
