Gordon may have been taught wrong by his mentors, but all you need is a professional to sharpen it for you and maintain the new edge via honing steel every time you use it. It's like going to a body auto shop, hairdresser, or shoe store. Useless, you're some bald Japanese sushi autist with precision tools; one does not need any sharpening equipment that will be used once every two years. Just visit your local knife store.

>> No.19425833

>>19425827
Also, these stores usually sell Japanese imports from Japan and do services for swords too.

The sharpener you'll use is almost always better than the $25k worth of jnats that you won't use

I've been trying to get my mom to buy an electric sharpener but my fragile masculinity STEM stepdad insists that he can freehand (he can't), so their knives are shit and every time I visit I bring a knife roll, and my own knives.

Ever notice how the people who sperg about "shortening the lifespan" barely cook and when they do they they might as well be using a butter knife?

If you want to pass something as an heirloom buy a fancy watch or something, nobody cares about your shitty wusthof knife, it's not a treasure it's a tool, kys

Pull through knife sharpeners are ok if you want to give a decent sharpening to your non-fancy knives in a quick and easy way. The main problem with those is that they tend to remove too much steel compared ro whetstones, but it's not a problem if you don't use for sharpening expensive knives. A normal knife will last you for decades anyway.

>> No.19426135

>>19426121
I forgot to say that you can buy decent pull through sharpeners that are a lot cheaper compared to the Zwilling one. if you want a no fuss sharpener and you have money to spend, you might want to check an electric one by Chef's Choice instead

>> No.19427722

>>19426121
I heard pull through knife sharpeners were bad but I thought this Zwilling one was special because they recommend using this one even with their pro knives. Is it just marketing?

>> No.19427736

no. if you want to ruin your knives just take them outside and start smacking cement with them. same result and much cheaper.

Isn't there a big difference between the classic pull through sharpeners and this?

>> No.19427794

>>19427743
Yes. This one uses abrasive rather than a scraping action with carbide.
