As an American who likes to stay close to his cultural roots, I'm enjoying a bratwurst feast to celebrate my German heritage (I had one full blooded German ancestor from the German coast 8 generations ago) this morning. Really reminds me of the Fatherland chomping into these juicy gray sausages in my dim room.

actually common to bake them. just finished the pride parades where we prepped 4000 sausages similar... put them on a bed of cabbage, peppers and onions, add broth and cover to bake.. uncover pull the sausages, flat top the onions and peppers, and grill off the meat tubes. the steam method works well to render the fats and makes the skins snap.

I grew up with my dad telling me we were entirely german on our side (he has a gold pocketwatch inscribed with the name Adolphis Mueller) and my mom's side of the family is polish-ish I believe. My sister gets a 23 and me or whatever and it says she's 45% scottish, what gives? I know she's my actual sister because she has my dad's owen wilson-esque nose, last name White. Wich heritage should I latch onto for brownie points?

German immigrants (or any European immigrants) marry into American families who are almost always mostly British but then keep their German surnames, and after multiple generations of this you end up as mostly British yourself and keep the vague idea that you come from Germany despite that not being exactly true. White also sounds like a British surname anyways, not German so there's no way your fad could have been entirely German anyways

Btw if this interests you then you should use FamilySearch to look at your genealogy. It's free and ran by crazy Mormons and you can probably find a lot of your ancestors on there, you'll have to be crafty to be able to find some of them though but they provide lots of reaources
