19388608 No.19388608 [Reply] [Original]

FUCK maintaining these pieces of shit, holy fuck, they all, EVERY SINGLE ONE, break down after 1 fucking year of use. It's insane. And you can't really get in there and open them up tpo really clean them properly because muh manufacturer and muh right to repair. I have to fucking send them to "service" and debug and shit. I am going to throw away my SMEG automatic coffee machine now and buy a classic machine that is easily to clean and maintain

Which is the best guys. Do you ahve any espresso machines at home? I was recommended Pavoni's here earlier, but it is high end, and I wonder if there are cheaper espresso machines that just get the job done or is the one by Pavoni actually the one to buy in terms of quality, durability and simplicity?

>> No.19388617

I'm trying to find machines that look as minimalistic as Pavonis machines but I can't find any. Is this some characteristic of Pavoni or am I just not searching well enough? I don't understand why all machines have to be so clunky rather than simple and nice like the other ones?

I don't think espresso is worth it unless you have a machine with a very good boiler hooked up to a very good supply of filtered water, and at that point I don't think it's worth it for home use unless you're just that rich and have no issues with space or paying someone to set up and repair if it ever needs it, as well as the fuss of tinkering with it pretty often to keep it making a cup that is marginally representative of what the machine is capable of. I don't even think most restaurants should bother with espresso. They really only should if they make enough of it or can charge the premium to keep a decent barista on staff.

Go to a cafe like a smart person and get one made professionally by a high quality, industrial quality machine. No bullshit consumer grade espresso machine - whether it is 200 dollars or 2000 dollars - is going to make a good espresso.

For the times you can't go to a café or if you are an Amerifat that lives somewhere that they don't exist or are a 25 minute drive away, use a Moka pot like virtually all of Italy does when they want an espresso without having to go out.

Someone answer my question about this so I know if I'm drinking garbage or not Lol.

I usually just get a large hot coffee served black or with light cream. Never get the flavored shit or anything more complicated/expensive.

I mean, it's OK. based from my taste perspective. I go there because you can still get a large coffee for under $3 that isn't gas station swill.

For simple comparison a large coffee at Dunkin comes out to $2.96 while at Starbucks it's $3.45.
