They keep at least 2 kegs of good beer on tap (owner tells me it's always promotional) but none of the regulars drink it. Pool is $0.50/game and the dart boards are usually open. It's disgusting, but they make fried mushrooms out of baby bellas and they're awesome.

In houston Texas, there's a bar called Lola's. You will never find a danker pit of degeneracy and villainy. They are being sued for overserving right now, but in my time there I have seen: a brick of cocaine moved, people shot, a guitar smashed on someone's head, a group of 9 people all get naked, and a party bus driver crash. Just south of OSU campus off the main drag is a windowless box called the “bier Stube”. It has largely remained unchanged since it was built in 1969, with the exception of a CD jukebox and a couple of craft beer taps. You can get a 10 buck pitcher of amber bock, the regulars are a tight knit but friendly bunch, and if you stick around till close it’s almost guaranteed you’ll see some goofy shit happen or at least have had some good conversation and an entire pack of smokes on the extremely bare but strangely welcoming patio.

best one I went to in Chattanooga was JJ's Bohemia which, while kinda shitty, occasionally has some decent bands play. For like $5 my friend and I saw Daikaiju, a band that play surf rock and light their drums on fire. Then they took it outside and gave the snare to some drunk people and girls started climbing on their van and dancing. Beer wasnt too expensive and no one got hurt or in trouble. Nearby was the Bitter Alibi which was much more comfy and had people sharing cigs in the smoking area at the same time. The bouncers were a little standoffish but everyone else was nice. Service was quick and they had a bunch of local brews

For most of the USA, especially the "flyover" parts, such as midwest and west, the bars/taverns are pretty much de facto small town community centers.

Everyone in the town gathers at those (anyone is is a *part* of that town that is), there's usually potlucks, events, and other gatherings usually held at them.

Think about it- in towns where the internet is lackluster at best, and it's too much gas money to go anywhere else, you WILL want to head to the local bar. Hell, despite networking/socializing, you can get free food.

Take it from a drifter- if you wanna be able to survive while out on the road and don't have or know much, you get yourself to a local bar. You'll be able to secure some sort of small jobs/gigs, or even a living accommodation, even if it's just for a night.

People bring gaming PCs with emulators on weekends and just play shit like SSBM. During the week the crowd is old expats. So insanely comfy.

Live in this state but can't seem to find a great bar. There are a few decent ones in the seacoast area, fancy ones like Raleigh or Botanica. Then there are some decent ones inland like 815 in Manchester and the pretty overrated Chuck's Barber Shop in Concord. Crescent Moon in Omaha, Nebraska.
Supposedly home of the original Reuben recipe from the Blackstone Hotel. I've had it and it's probably the best reuben I've had.
Tons of good local Nebaskan craft beer, as well as German and Belgian imports, as the owner is a beer enthusiast and also owns a brewery in town.
Good place, maybe I'm biased since I worked here and at his brewery/bottleshop.
