That doesn't work for me because most of my recipes are 1 or 2 dish recipes where the only things I could wash while cooking would be utensils. The pots and plates and bowls and skillets, the ones that pile up at the end, are the ones that I have to deal with at the end.

If you live alone, and are sure no one else is going to be eating your cooking, eat from the pot.
That leaves you with only one "dish" to clean per recipe.
Also, pre-soaking your dishes makes the job easier.

If you have 'downtime' while cooking then you aren't actually cooking, you shoudl have to be actively stirring/flipping/moving things, changing heats, watching for certain things, etc. You should not have time to go do dishes and wash hands and whatnot unless you are literally cooking on a 5th grade level. "Tacos" that are ground beef with a powder from walmart, "soup" that is a can of condensed campbells, and a frozen dinner. YUM YUM!
