19341349 No.19341349 [Reply] [Original]

My dad says Jack Daniels but I keep hearing that’s a bad starter and that it’s meant to be diluted with sodas only and that it tastes like straight gasoline.

I don’t mind the gasoline taste as long as it’s not overpowering to the point it torches my throat and stomach, and as for alcohol content I’m a pretty large guy so I feel like I could handle a fair amount of alcohol although I have never drank before.

Thanks folk

Alright, so a "manly beginner drink" is whatever the fuck you like drinking, a grown man doesn't give a shit what some faggot thinks about his drink choice. That said, if you insist on being self-conscious, whiskey and coke is your go-to at home, at the bar I'd recommend an Old-Fashioned.

Fair, I'm just having a night. So, the basic rundown is vodka is for getting drunk, whether you're chugging bottom-shelf swill with a Mt. Dew chaser or making cocktails with midshelf, the flavor is "neutral" so it's purpose is just to be alcohol. Tequila and rum are for getting the pants off college girls. Whiskey will probably be your bread and butter. I like Jameson for drinking straight, Evan Williams is a cheap Daniels knock-off for mixing.

Personally, I'm an old cunt and past my alcoholic days, so I just enjoy a nice amaretto on the rocks after dinner. Liqueurs are good shit, but high in sugar, so you can't go hard without getting a killer hangover. On that note, vitamin B-Complex, take one with a full pint of water before you pass out and you'll be golden.

At the bar order shots of whiskey with a beer back, which is a standard 12 ounces of beer. You can also get a half-back at some places which I prefer. They will ask you what kind of whiskey and beer; it doesn't matter. Down the shot of whiskey as fast as you can and quickly chase it by drinking the beer.

This is the only manly "beginner mode" drinking method in my opinion.

Jack Daniels isn't bad, in the sense that to sound like you're not an incel retard 4chan poster you should have at least tried all the normie whiskeys
>Jack Daniels
>Jim Beam
>Jameson
>Johnnie Walker
Plus some other liquors for a baseline understanding
>Captain Morgan
>Hennessey
>Bombay Sapphire
Honestly you can get like the smallest bottle you can find of all of the above just to say you've tried them.
Likewise you should have at least tasted some common beers
>Budweiser
>Corona
>PBR
Now, nothing on this list is seriously Good, or even the best you can get for the price. But if you want to sound like you're not a total retard when you talk to a normie alcoholic/almost any adult, you should have tried all of these. Probably a few varieties of wine too but that's a whole different can of worms. As far as what's actually good, if you've worked through this entire list you should have a baseline understanding of what you like and don't like and you can come back and post a more informed thread where we can give you a real answer. As a Beginner the most important thing in any field is to cast a wide net rather than pigeon holing yourself into one thing right from the start. Develop your understanding and palate broadly and you will organically learn how to make good decisions for yourself.

there's no such thing as a "manly beginner" drink. Manliness is completely subjective and always has been, what you want is to be peak. A peak human is curious and ambitious, and that extends to their tastes. Developing good tastes doesn't mean having someone hand a list of drinks to you and going down them one by one, it means exploring and finding out what you personally like and don't like, then building on those preferences to find increasingly intricate, well-rounded, satisfying, and artistically sculpted works.

So if the idea of getting into whiskey sounds good for you, some basic starters can be Evan Williams, Johnnie Walker black, Chivas 12 year, Buffalo Trace, Wild Turkey. If you're not sure how to drink them, try these entry methods:

1. Straight, room temperature. Pour 1.5 oz and sip it.

2. On the rocks. Same as the above but with 3 big chunks of ice.

3. Simple dillution. Same as above but with half an oz of cool water added.

4. Highball, same as on the rocks but with enough soda water added to bring the total mix to around 6 oz. Can add a splash of *fresh* lemon juice as well.

5. Ginger ale/beer highball. Same as the highball but with a decent ginger ale or beer, Canada Dry or maybe Bundaberg. If you find that this is the only way you can enjoy a whiskey, you are not going to be a whiskey person.

6. Old-fashioned, the cocktail that favors the liquor's flavor strongly. Add two orange peels and half a tsp of sugar to a glass, shake in two dashes of Angostura bitters, mix together with a spoon, add three big chunks of ice along with 1.5 to 2 oz of whiskey, then stir together for about 30 seconds, until the entire glass is ice cold to the touch. Drink as is.

Other starting points for peak drinking experience include junmai-daiginjo sake, tawny port, dark rums such as Appleton 12 or Plantation dark, any small-label mezcal, Gran Centenario tequila, porter or German lager. Really plenty of stuff. Good luck, don't be a faggot.

Cocktails, like anything else in the culinary world, can be crafted artfully with meaning, practice, curiosity, ambition, and harmony, or they can be thrown together like pure shit. A well made cocktail is an expression of the best qualities of the liquors and other ingredients involved as well as the recipe writer and bartender's skills. A solid old-fashioned will never go out of style because it's either made right and with good ingredients, or it fucking sucks.
