My mom is kind of a retard when it comes to cooking. Yes she does her family's depression-era stuff well, but she was never exposed to the likes of Good Eats and was also never really exposed to Julia Child etc when she was younger.

She knows I love to cook though, and recently her and my dad were roadtripping through Colorado and stopped at this random spice shop and she thought she'd buy me something nice as a souvenir that I could cook with. With walls and walls of shit to choose from she got me a Berbere spice blend, thinking this would be new and exciting for me.

She was fucking right.
1. I know nothing of North African food
2. I generally don't use spice blends but there was no chance I would have ever put something like this together myself, ever.
3. It is fucking delicious. I smash this shit into rice & beans a couple times a month (or lentils if you're authentic), or pat it onto chicken. It's even good on fishes and salads if you're really bored with salad.

10/10 awesome and thoughtful af gift, I suggest youse guys try it out.

Get you some Da Kine, Lawrey's, and Montreal Seasoning. Garlic powder is also a must-have.
FUCK, now you've got me started. You should have dried cumin, oregano, basil and parsley. Add Old Bay, black pepper, white pepper, red pepper flakes, Chinese 5 spice, bay leaves, kosher salt (obviously), cayenne, tarragon, and pickling spices, at a minimum.


If you don't already have all this in a kitchen cabinet, you don't deserve to post on /ck/.
