Thanks anon.
They don’t have the gasket measures but in theory it should only fit the internal diameter part to be able to fit.
Another question would be if it would work on the larger funnel I have.

Maybe it would be cheaper just to buy an E&B moka and be done with it or find an alternative filter for mine.

you cant buy direct from their website which sucks
i can see one place called "net-espresso" selling one for €61.00
im not sure if i have a weird model but every time i see the moka in pictures it has a different look and "texture" than the one i have.
like mine is smooth uniform black
idk it could be that the lighting in the photos makes it look different.
just thought i would mention if you do end up buying one and think something is wrong or you got the wrong order.
as you can see in this pic it doesnt have the same black/grey speckled appearance in the photos.

E&B Lab also make a stainless steel aeropress filter for those interested in that.

I emailed them and they gave me the same measures for the gasket I find on the website.
The question here at this point is if the part of the filter that is now covered by the E&B gasket (which also has the holes starting in a narrower position than the Giannina filter - see third picture) won’t sit on part of the coffee puck and fuck up the extraction/pressure.

1) would it still work?
2) would this be dangerous?

>> No.19268118

>>19268087
uhhhhh...
try it and find out i guess
also
something i didnt think about was (and maybe this doesnt matter) the E&B moka follows the standard bialetti screw on format but this one is a like clip on with a fastener.
its all based on pressure
but yeh idk i guess just buy it and try it out.
i mean i cant imagine it fucking explodes.
probably a test run where you leave the lid down and stand away from the stove just in case just to see if it
1: explodes
2: filters the coffee properly(no silt in the cup) and that the basket at the end looks good.
nothing ventured nothing gained right?

yeh the old trusty italian made safety valve...
but i think that video happened because the grind was way way way too fine so it pushed up and then channeled which allowed the boiling water to spray out.
you can grind finer with the E&B not like alot finer but a bit. which further helps to slightly increase pressure and extraction.
but look at that video
right before the explosion it looked like mud.
at 7 seconds you can literally see the wall of the moka covered in grounds, the guy must have ground for espresso because italians are retarded and cant stop themselves from calling moka espresso or "stove top espresso" when it isn't at all.
also the standard bialetti filter is trash and the holes are too large, especially for something that finely ground.
also that heat is insanely high.
he should have been in the process of turning it to min at 0 seconds into the video
he did everything he could have done to give himself like 3rd degree burns.

It wasn't me, remember?
I have a JX Pro and I'm perfectly happy with it so far once you told me how to zero it.
I'm waiting to receive the magic beans from you know who to start experiencing hopefully good coffee, then once I'm out of coffee I'll try the barn shop, german roaster, and whatever ctg links me.

Once I have an answer/solution to my moka "issue" I'll have no other reason to come here and post any other things that are not goffee and goffee related discussions.

I may be a little autistic, but I care about the things I like and buy, because I invest to much time researching info about them that if I have problems using them I get hurt in my feelings because I feel bad and need to understand what's wrong or what's defective, it's a matter of principle. I don't want to end up like these people who solve their issues by buying a ton of equipment every time they're not satisfied, mostly because I don't have a ton of money like them but then again because it goes against my persona since I'm not a consoomer.

Alberto answered me, he told me that both my emails went into the spam folders and he will write me a detailed answer when he gets home on the moka issue once he sees the video (he’s currently away for another coffee event).

I’m happy bros, I feel like everything will be ok.

>coffee will be here on Monday

>I love my moka
>the anon who bullied me made peace with me and now we’re friends

Life’s good.

>Hello dear ANON,
>I’m so sorry but both your messages had ended up in spam, directly, and as I rarely use my PC these days, I have read them now. I assure you that I will watch the video over the weekend and I intend to contact you towards the end of the week to explain my considerations.
>Also your Coffee is on its way and should also arrive on Monday, if the courier doesn't throw a tantrum, so it will be possible to see if there will be differences in extraction. I’ll be in touch confronting directly with tests on my computer. In any case, I recommend avoiding the freezer, but instead you can use a simple glass jar in the refrigerator. Or, alternatively, plastic food bags to close with your vacuum sealing machine, but always to keep in the refrigerator afterwards. The fragrance should be maintained for 30/40 days after roasting. Maybe with slight tolerances in the days from Coffee to Coffee, but surely there is no need to buy more than what is needed for a month of tastings.
>Have a nice weekend, best regards,

Dark Italian roasts are oily and by freezing them you could fuck up the oil that would freeze mixing with air and droplets of water and when you’re going to defrost them the water will “wash” the oils away from the beans.

All you need is a proper roaster (e.g. Antica Tostatura Triestina, De Witte Zwaan,...), a proper monovariety (Jamaican Blue Mountain), roasted between 3 and 7 days ago, properly ground for your device, a device that has been working for an hour already, and proper mineral water (1300m+ altitude) - because that's what your coffee is for 98%: water.

That a meaningless metric for getting coffee equipment. The sette is just as “plasticky” as a Breville machine. The Gaggia is repairable, not the sette.

They're all disposable to a point and the sette is also plasticky. I don't care about retained value.

>>19269541

I don't know if I care enough to spend more. Most reviews I see seem to say that the baratza sette feels cheaper and is louder but is a slightly better performer.

My hangup mainly on the gaggia is that it seems to be the go to but everyone mods the hell out of it. No PID and a lot of talk of temp surfing. The gaggia is a known quantity, but it almost seems like in that price range the Breville Bambino+ mogs it for performance. The idea of a thermoblock being ready to go in seconds is a plus.

So I really am conflicted. I agree the brevilles "feel" cheap but most reviews seem fairly decent outside of that.

>> No.19269560

Bezzera is known for excellent mechanical design and repairability. Baratza is known for breaking one day after the warranty ends and winding up in a land fill. reviews from who? bots and idiots mostly. as you would expect from the riff raff who buy plastic throw away shit. the grinder built into the "barista pro" is ass and ultimately it pulls a subpar cup. if you want something fast, maybe stick to pod shit or get a shitty full automachine.

>> No.19269583

But the baratza grinder isn't particularly repairable...? Sure, the gaggia is known to be repairable, but the idea that I'm buying a coffee machine that is such a piece of shit I have to plan on repairing it is hardly encouraging.

I get the impression the home espresso market is dominated by subpar equipment at extravagant prices. I don't mind spending for quality but I also feel as if there is a lot of gear queer silliness in there too. I am not a coffee snob.

reparability is highly desirable if you expect your shit to last longer than the warranty. the vario and forte for example are built like tanks, but in addition to that completely user serviceable so that if you ever do need to change a motor you can buy one for $50 and install it yourself and be on your way for another 10+ years.

>> No.19269615

The only necessary mod for the Gaggia is the OPV which can be done in 5 minutes. I’d also get an aftermarket basket but that’s true for almost any espresso machine. The most important thing is the grinder.
If you enjoy tinkering you’d like the Gaggia but it’s not for everyone. The breville works but the skill ceiling is not too high. I’d say it can make good shots from my experience.

I have no idea what you’re smoking but Baratza has a reputation for being incredibly repairable. You see people giving mantainance and using and buying 10 year old Varios because Baratza facilitates selling spare parts on their website, makes them compatible with pieces of future versions (you can upgrade your busted up old Vario to the metal chamber and steel burrs of the + model) AND will repair your grinder for you and restore it to factory condition. Hell even if you mod it and fuck up they will restore it to factory condition.
It’s specifically why I chose it after doing a lot of research, although unlike the Sette anon I went for a Vario W+ (I don’t have the time/energy to rehabilitate and old model). People just look down on them because they don’t conform to whatever trendy aesthetic others go for and use plastic outside, but what good is a pretty exterior if the guts are trash that will die on you and customer service will laugh at you while you’re out $500-$1000?

Yerba mate is the other big one. fellas I got good with my flair but I think I just dont appreciate espresso that much. It just feels bitter and I never truly experience all the meme flavors they suggest on the bags.

I'm fairly sure I'm doing it right cause i got an espresso from a little place, then bought their beans and my pull is similar but it's not super enjoyable. Even when I make it into an americano it feels lie it's less enjoyable than a regular cupa for some reason

Should I just sell my setup and by an aeropress?

>Criticisms, if ever there are any, address them directly to me; Please, write you praises, if you want, on the social networks where I am present (Facebook and Instagram), and on the website (caffepenazzi.it). And if you will tell your friends and acquaintances about me, recommending me to them, I will be even more grateful.
>Alberto Trabatti, roaster in Ferrara

>what are the other ones

Peru Tres Mosqueteros, Brazil Santos “X”, India Cherry AB, Guatemala Huehuetenango and Miscela del Torrefattore (roaster’s blend), the latter being Penazzi signature blend.

I don’t know if I should consume them in order according to their roasting date or if I should go in another order, by the way I’m curious about the Guatemala Huehuetenango because is a rare coffee.

I think I’ll start with the Peru Tres Mosqueteros because it has fruit notes, for a change since I had chocolatey coffees lately.

All these coffees have been roasted this week, after I ordered them on Friday 5th may, with the fresher having been roasted on the 12th may.

I’m happy with the quality I’ve seen overall, now I only have to drink the coffee.

im guessing as a military normie that that allows for better armor on top?
i would imagine having a tank have clearance to turn 360 makes a huge weak spot
and you could probably make the inside/firing mechanism more streamlined/efficient when you dont have to consider things spinning around.

Imho Alberto should really merge these 3 websites into a single one, you can really tell that he’s a self made man working alone trying to do his best with his skills (web design not being one of these sadly), because it’s sad that you can’t cross shop Penazzi coffee with, say, the Mokista pot because it’s sold on another website with another shopping cart, etc..

Thank you anon.

Yes, I will try to “review” them to the best of my ability when I nail the grind.

So, to the contrary of what I planned, I started with the India Cherry AB because there was a hole at the bottom of the package (just the paper layer not the plastic layer inside but I’m anxious so I had to move the coffee inside the airtight jar).

The notes on the package are: total absence of acidity, intense chocolate and toasted bread.

I grinded and made 1 cup, the taste was a little acidic (lol) and kind of fruity, I don’t really know how toasted bread is supposed to taste but the flavour I sensed was reminiscent of yeast and fermentation, some chocolate and cocoa in the aftertaste. Very persistent flavour.

In about 1 hour I’ll have another cup, I shall grind 4-5 steps finer to see if the acidic was under extraction, then hopefully for dinner time I’ll have the grind fixed on the right size. Let’s see.

Meanwhile here’s a picture for the beans feticists, keep in mind that I used the flash and the colour can be fucked up.

That’s nice anon.

Alberto works alone at the Torrefazione Penazzi and for half a day he runs the cafè for the customers, included breakfast and lunch, then again on the week end and occasionally during the week (like last days) he was working outside to coffee related events with his tricycle making coffee using the Faema espresso machine, so it’s understandable if he takes some days to do his thing.

Is this optimal? No, it isn’t, but if the coffee is good I will happily wait for it. Next time I order, I’ll do it a week in advance, problem solved.

I add that the acidic profile was the same I found in the Chickmagalur Karnataka roasted by Laboratorio di torrefazione Caffè Giamaica, so I now have the doubt that this specific aroma is, indeed, the bread as it reminds me of sourdough bread, which has that specific taste.

The description on the package says:

>Natural Arabica larger than the average of Indian coffees, and very variable in its expression, as the plantations are not of the traditional type but absolutely
scattered around. However, it has no acidity, and has notes of cocoa and toasted bread which are pleasant and long lasting.

Second coffee with 4 steps finer grind (1,9 rotations).
The acidic has decreased but it’s still there, it’s not disturbing, and there’s chocolate, a lot of it in the aftertaste which is persistent. It reminds me of the Continental I just finished days ago.

After dinner, I’ll grind finer again but I think to be close to nailing it.

It’s a good coffee so far, zero bitterness.

Why are some coffees harder to grind in a manual grinder than others, even when using the same grind size? What influences this?
For instance, the one I’m using now is harder to grind and has a lot of static because a lot of coffee stays attached to the burr ends and the sides of the grinder cup while the coffee I had before was smooth. Is it because of the freshness?

Grinder is JX-PRO at around 2 full rotations, flair neo with bottomless portafilter, pulling 15g with a shitty WDT using sewing needles that are thinner than toothpicks but not acupuncture tier. I tamp pretty hard but not retard strength hard.

I boil my water with the reservoir in it so the chamber is really hot and then the water I use is straight off the boil.

Pre-infusion 10s, pull 35-40s. Crema looks good. Cam from below shows that there doesnt seem to be insane channeling although it could be possible.

if you can do it wrong and do it right
yes it is a skill
but i was more talking about coffee as a whole
it does take skill to make a good cup of coffee with various brew methods.
but your message of "oh you cant do something good right away? well just let a machine do it retard" is stupid especially for things people do as more of a hobby and not just something that they consume
"hobby" is just a mindset that can be applied to anything.
there are so many things that machines can literally do better do you think that humans just shouldn't even bother even if they are interested in doing that thing and becoming as good or better than the machine?
