I actually set 10% of all my income aside, then at the end of every month I use it to buy a bunch of groceries. Instead of taking them home, I wheel the cart around back and throw all the food I just bought in the dumpster. Then I shit on it just to make sure nobody else gets it.

In Europe we save all the scraps of meat and vegetables, you can even find good clean scraps in the dumpsters, if you go at the right times. These all can make a good stew for very cheap. Throwing away food of any kind should be a crime though.

my cat lived to 20 and for most of his life I never took him to the vet and only fed him garbage tier food. I sometimes wonder if he would have made it past 25 if I had been a better owner.

Cat lifespans are mostly down to genetics outside injury/obesity. Indoor-only cats can live quite a while assuming they don't develop kidney disease.
Sadly cat kidneys have something like a 50/50 chance of just self-destructing around 10 years old

yeah he died of kidney disease. I force fed him a pill twice a day for over a year at the end and I thought it would keep him alive but on a hot day in July I think he got dehydrated and his kidneys shut down. looking back the vet basically told me he was going to die soon but in different words but I didn't believe it.

20 is very old for cats, he lived a good long time
My first cat got bowel cancer at around 13 but she kicked around for another 5 years on steroids - for her last two years I was giving her pred shots once every two weeks. She was a doll.
After her I got a cat from a nearby shelter that was obese and clearly older than they claimed (shelters will pretend every adult cat is 3-4). Sadly he had already lost some kidney function when I got him (I think whoever owned him previously was feeding him table scraps) and he went into full kidney failure at around 9-11

My mom never liked the fat cap on steaks or pork chops so she'd give them to me. Had a vegetarian girlfriend who would order double pepperoni, then give me all of hers and dab off the meat juice off her slices.
