I'm sorry, it's good stuff but it's just not as good and def not as versatile as sambal oelek.
And this shortage of sambal oelek is crazy. There's none in my area (I'm talking a four-town area). I broke down and checked Amazon and there was one of the small jars for sale -- for $30!
There's not even any sriracha around either which I would buy even though it's inferior to sambal oelek.
And Lao Gan Ma stains very easily.

I bought a jar of this stuff and it had a disgusting fishy taste so I threw it out and bought another jar a month later and it also had a fishy taste.

Pic related completely blows it out of the water but they don't sell it anywhere near me so I have to buy it for 8 dollars a jar on Amazon
