Why are they so slept on?

In my country I just brought about 25 for 9 dollars (5 or so USD). Grown in healthy wild waters, full of vitamins, minerals, absolutely delicious. So whats the deal? Everybody is creaming themselves over oysters which are literally 35 dollars for a dozen, but no love for my niggas?

I just steamed fourteen of them, dipped them in spiced batter and shallow fried them. They are absolutely delicious.

I think people look down on them or something, as if they're 'poor people food'?

they are under appreciated, oysters were viewed similarly at one point as well
enjoy your nice things while they are still affordable

It's because they're so easy to farm

I love me some mussels. 2nd best of the bivalves (scallops win, not so much on flavor as versatility). Unfortunately, mussels are extremely hard to find where I live: the freaking capital of seafood, Japan, and mussels are practically non-existent (excluding pre-boiled frozen stuff).

I don't even like oysters much unless, sacrilege of all sacrileges, they're fried. But mussels? Yeah, I can eat those bitches by the bucket. Super cheap where I live. Equivalent of about $6USD per kg or just under $3/lb.
No matter how I cook them, they're always delicious.

I only really like scallops dried. Great for making seafood rice porridge.
