I got a job at the closest restaurant to my house when I was 21. Walking distance so that was convenient. I worked on dishes and a couple other small things for a couple days. Everyone back there was very dramatic and thought highly of themselves. I didn't want to get trapped around those people or even risk becoming them. You didn't get free food either, they took it out of your paycheck. No discount. Arab owners. Fucking sand niggers, man. Friends grandpa used to say "Arabs are crazy. They'll kill you over a penny. Jews are dangerous too, but they'll wait until it's a dollar"

I used to work in the pit. It was nice getting high all day and making money but it really sucked during rushes. One time I got so high on a dab pen that I dropped a stack of like 30 plates and I just stood there while the resteraunt owner cleaned it up. I was known for breaking shit all the time. Besides that it was nice to talk with cute waitresses on smoke break and I made a good amount of money selling pot brownies to everyone there. No free food policy but we got a discount. One time the head chef let me take home a nice big piece of prime rib for free.

I started my restaurant job in the dish pit, but had to switch positions because we wouldn't leave until around 2:00am and my parents didn't want me out that late.
So they hired a retard around my age to wash the dishes (which didn't make sense because he couldn't drive and I doubt his parents wanted him out that late). Anyway whenever he used the hose it'd bounce off the wall and hit us front of house people when we put the dishes away. Naturally he didn't last long.

Oh and btw this place would put the floornats in the dish machine instead of steaming them or however you're supposed to clean them.

I'm guessing your place of occupation tends to, uh, not attract generally skilled people?
I mean, it probably wouldn't be too hard to get a sailor or marine that only served 4 years or so to do a 12-16 hour shift a couple days a week. But it probably wouldn't be unfair to say that your workplace literally couldn't afford to hire those kinds of people. I spent 3 years in the dish pit as a teenager. It's a good example of how I never live up to my potential. Never got promoted to bus boy because I never asked. Fell in love with one of the waitresses but never hooked up with her until 10 years later when I wasn't even attracted to her anymore because my small town innocent love feelings were killed by the internet and big city life. I used to wash dishes until 3am and eat the french fries from the bus tubs because I was so tired and hungry, never got free food besides that. I was a 6ft tall attractive retard that the waitresses kept trying to figure out. Nobody ever invited me to smoke weed out back. A girl from school was eating there and asked to talk to me during my shift. I came out and she said hello and I didn't understand she liked me and I blew it. Was awkward and we stood there in silence. I work in IT now, my wife and I haven't had sex in 5 years. I am addicted to pregabalin. Bought some new stainless pans the other day and love them! My wife loves the fried rice I make with em.

worked in one for 7 years from hs->college. small restaraunt it was right behind the bar.
small pub in nicee neighborhood. chatted with the regulars over the years who all knew i worked my ass off.
During college various regulars gave me three internships (accounting and financial planning, and the government contracting)
for all three of them my "interview" was "youve worked xx for how long? Well if youve been able to survive Katie and Judy, youll do just fine here. when can you start"

aside from that it was fun. in hs was banging some of the post college girls who all thought i was "cute". cooks liked me because kept their dishes stocked so always bought me beer when asked.

summer before cllege worked so many shifts in dish and frier (moved to kitchen 2 nights/week) that i burned off all my finger prints. i got arrested for an open container 3 weeks into college and they actually rolled my toes because my fingers were just solid blocks on the scan

i do miss it. went back in november and was sitting at the bar. owner was short staffed and paid me $200(+2% of sales) to man grill and do dishes for the shift.. just wasnt the same being on the other side. the pandemic changed restaraunts. none of the servers are hot anymore, all the cooks are hispanic (used to be a white mans club), and the hostesses are 16 (cute but had bfs).

tldr, best job in my life. am where i am because of it and have an insane network across restaurants and corporations alike.

I kinda liked washing dishes, it's easy if you can keep all your shit organized but that can be impossible if FOH don't play ball, which is the main source of tard rage. I don't mind working in the dish pit but if you keep promising me you'll get me out of there and never deliver then fuck off.

I did for two weeks i think when i was 14. Got paid 20 bucks per day, cash. Also a pasta meal with the rest of the workers. My naive ass really thought we got what food was on the menu. We had this massive sink thingy and from above a pressure washer would come down and rinse all the dishes in the sink. Was alright.

>saved up containers during shift
>most of the time the spicy rolls are leftover but otherwise I'd grab chicken, gyudon, and appetizers.
One lesson I also learned was to eat the leftover raw rolls within a day, lest you wanna vomit the very next day.

You didn’t see it. It’s not like it was Romano or some shit that’s just out of the fridge a while, there were soft cheeses like Brie and shit and the people who had ordered it had made a mess of it. I just think it’s nasty to eat after a stranger in general.

>go out to my car, take some bong rips, come back inside and hook up my iphone to the stereo in back and start blasting Alice in Chains
>all the other waiters come back and chill with me when they have extra time, cooks hook me up with a huge meal
>waiters give me some of their tip money because they knew I was missing out on it
>manager is impressed because I actually got the dishes done and didn't let things pile up into a huge mess

This happened for about a year sporadically. Each time it did I would get another $20 gift card to cheesecake factory, I ended up with over $300 in gift cards. Was nice because I could just get high as fuck, blast whatever music I wanted, fuck with the mexican cooks, and chill with the other busboys / waitstaff. This went on from 2013-2014. Simpler times man, I miss it.

I was treated like crown royalty when I worked as a dishy. Could make anything I wanted to eat mid service for free. I really tried to push them but they really didn't seem to care. My go to meal was garlic bread with prosciutto and cheese. They used small amounts of prosciutto for like 2 dishes and I swear a good chunk of their prosciutto stock was going towards my snacks. Nearly every day I'd go up and take fresh chips meant for customers and no one would bat an eye. It was almost bizarre how good they treated me.

You can only blame that on yourself because you actively let yourself get taken advantage of. Even if the employer eventually pays you the hours i'd consider quitting, employers that value you as an employee won't try to jew you out of your wages.

Worked as a full time dishy a couple of years ago at a three hat restaurant (hats are just Australia’s less prestigious Michelin star) it was my first job in hospitality and standards were incredibly high. I couldn’t make any noise or I’d get yelled at. I hated it at the time but when I look back it gained a bit of work ethic and discipline. Just dropped culinary school and washing dishes at a shitty cafe, thinking of leaving hospitality all together as I’m only 22

>6 ft 3 DARK motherfucker, cross on his necklace
>always came into the fuckin'...bread bashes? drunk out of his mind
>walks in, 5, 5:30a, can't remember, but it was before 6 since that's when the place opened
>saunters on in with a large BK cup, like 38 ounces, having himself some sips
>fast forward to about 5:50
>opening manager loudly proclaims he's gonna have to throw that away because no drinks on the food line >(which is fine actually, that's whatever)
>can barely hear this as I'm in a battle with the baker to keep clean baking sheet levels in equilibrium
>I am definitely losing
>ten minutes later
>dudes flailing about, screaming WHERE THE FUCKS MY DRINK, WHO FUCKED WITH MY DRINK
>uhhhhh
>manager threw it away, it's sitting in trashcan
>dude is chimping out over a BK soda, lol
>doesn't BK have pepsi anyways? we only stock pepsi shit too, what's the difference
>manager decides to rub her two brain cells together and checks the trash can
>this motherfucker came into work at 5am with a 38 ounce BK cup full of fucking whiskey

dude got fired on the spot, total freakout
apparently morning shifts got a lot worse after that since the dude was of the sort where he's literally a functioning alcoholic and was apparently really good at his job
only other thing I remember was this old fucker who would get an americano and shotgun the whole thing instantly without reaction or hesitation, just cold shouldering a fucking 200 degree espresso water mix

i worked at a st louis style pizza place when i was 19 - it was my first time living in the city. i was hired to make pizza, but chose to just wash the dishes most of the time until the "supervisor" would holler at me to come make some pizzas.
he got my buddies and i together to point out someone who he thought was a "really hot girl", even though he said she looked about 14. to be honest, i think she was probably 13. i quit that job without giving notice and left town after a few months
i liked washing the dishes - low stress, not dealing with people - it's a good basic job

One of the most based men I've ever met. He was always a funny meets based kind of guy.
A year or so before he passed away, he moved in with his only kid and only grandkid (my friend). We were helping him unload his perishables into the fridge and I asked him what mushy thing was rolled up in some tinfoil. In a made up voice he immediately said
>why that's a nigger's dick, my boy!

I've dish washed at many joints, my favorite place was a BBQ restaurant. The mexican working there scared the shit out of me saying the soap they used was so powerful it would turn the fat in my hands to soap and be really painful for months if I didn't use the gloves when washing the big pots. Like what the fuck kind of soap is that? Apparently it's real but I think working 10 hours a week while in college wasn't really going to cause that.
