anyway, i didn't read my hydrometer correctly for cider (or did the temperature math wrong or something) and put a little too much finishing sugar in while bottling and inadvertently created five gallons' worth of 12oz bottle bombs
one went off in the basement (nobody around, thank goodness) and sounded like a funshot, broke about ten others in the process, but the rest were just sitting there... menacingly
had to throw on the thickest jacket i could find and my welding gloves/mask and open the rest of the batch; a few of them exploded right on touch

I always see people here post these literally unbelievable stories (as in I don't believe them) about Popeyes. Fist fights in the drive thru. Hour long waits. Rude service. Wrong orders. The ghosts of millions of dead chickens rising from the fryers to rend the flesh from the living. Etc etc etc.
I've literally never had a problem at Popeyes and it's the only fast food resto I go to (and even so, it's rare that I do). Why have I never experienced the fights or the poor service or the marauding poultrygeists?

Cook with grills more than a stove so I've burned off more hair than I can remember. But the dumbest was when I didn't open the grill lid all the way and when it came back down I grabbed it. And not by the handle. Did it one other time as well but stopped it with my elbow. Still have scars from it.

also left my gas on one night but I had a couple windows open cause my friend and I were smoking weed inside. that could've been bad

at work when I was young I had apple cider reducing in the back in a giant 4 burner stock pot. forgot about it completely and the heat was way too high, it turned into syrup, and then burnt, and then turned into fire. it was probably a minute until the ansul system went off and I covered it with a sheet tray. fucking terrifying. that pan took a whole week to clean bit by bit

When she was done she accidentally turned all four burners to "high" instead of "off".
So while the four of us are eating ravioli in the other room the smoke alarms goes off and all 4 coils are glowing bright orange.

When my wife and I were first dating in college she was going to make dinner for us one evening by making chicken tenders. I instructed her on how to season and dredge them and how much oil to use in the pan. I get to her apartment that evening after work and the windows are open. I walk inside and she's cleaning soot off of surfaces and says "we're not eating dinner here tonight." I was in a restaurant that burned down right in the middle of our meal. It came out later that an electrical fire broke out in the basement and the staff spent several minutes trying to control it while the upstairs slowly began filling with smoke and they finally had to fess up and announce that the restaurant is burning down and we should consider leaving our tables.

No sprinkler system, no smoke detectors, and yet it was still considered up to code.
