LMAO this is so true. When I used to drive trucks I would deliver California produce or South Dakota pork or Arkansas chicken to HEB distribution centers all the time. And then go home and see an ad from HEB saying how they only source from Texas.

Ask any Texan farmer whose done a contract with HEB. Private or public, it's always the same game of carrot & stick with these corpo fucks. I'll use the strawbrairy for their ice cream as an example (because it's not just a fucking example). There ain't no such thing as a strawbrairy auction, and when HEB is gonna launch a strawbrairy ice cream, they need to make sure they got the logistics to support it (ie, strawbrairies). Simplest way to do this is to get a contract with a farmer garenteeing that he grows x acres of strawbrairies and not sell those strawbraires to anyone else, in exchange HEB will garentee to buy every bushel of strawbrairies for a set amount, and a fair one that supports Texas farmers and they know they'll get a decent reward for their efforts rather than leaving it up to market price.
That's the carrot. The stick is when they go out after harvest, knock a bushel over then go "oh no, would you look at how poor and blemished these strawbrairies are. We can only offer you 1/4 of what we originally agreed upon." And the farmer has no choice but to consent to this robbery because HEB lawyers can drag out a case longer than it'll take for those strawberries to go bad, plus the cost of trying to preserve them the whole time, and they can't sell to anyone else otherwise heb will sue them so bad heb will end up owning the farm.

Then they put that bit about supporting Texas farmer on the pint of ice cream. So then the customer can feel a small hit of dopamine for being such an outstanding human being(the carrot) all the while killing Texas's farms(the stick). Problem is most people nowadays are too addicted to the carrot to recognize the stick, despite looking like St. Sebastien, but that's a rant for another time

I work for these fuckers and I assure you they’re just as bad as any other grocery chain, the shit I’ve seen in my warehouse would make you never eat anything there again. The management types like to pretend we’re somehow above Walmart but its the exact same shit

At first I was all like "Oh that's real neat" but after he walked by the lady in the blue shirt, just two passengers on the journey we call life, passing eachother, as if it were any other day down at the local pizza store, the clown world of it all. I lost it. This is hilarious.

share em. or are you too busy working on the larp?

At the Independent store in Canada, workers touch the ACE bread with dirty old gloves that have been recycled for years. It gets thrown into an oven after, but still.

I'd also go in the freezer where all the dough and cakes were and make big stinky farts. It was cold in there.
