They are excellent, but can be a bit tricky to do yourself. Noone really makes their own in the UK since high quality ones can be bought easily.
You want good quality well seasoned sausage meat and they are best enjoyed hot with the egg inside being soft boiled and runny. There is lots of recipes with a "twist" were they add extra things to the sausage like black pudding or use crushed crisps for breadcrumbs or even use pickled eggs instead

Hard boil an egg, let it cool, carefully take the shell off, then add raw sausage and breading to cook further

Scotch eggs are the epitome of pointless cuisine. It offers no culnerary advantage over a regular hard boiled egg and pan fried sausage eaten together

Every supermarket sells them in varying quality. High quality ones you get a 2 pack pretty big ones for about £4.50, they take about 14 minutes in the oven to cook. The rubbish ones you get 2 for about £1.50 but they are hard boiled
Some restaurants, bistros or gastro pubs often sell them too as a starter.

A lot are. The best ones are from M&S and there's a company called The Jolly Hog that do them too, but they aren't as good as the ones from M&S. I wouldn't personally get any but them

I want to eat these. But the only way that's happening is I make them.
What's the secret? Minimum soft boil, cool eggs in fridge, use room temp meat?
The problem I had last time I tried making scotch eggs was getting a thin layer to stick and/or stay. I ended up with them being fat as fuck.

The rubbish ones are cold and hard boiled as they are easier on the go to eat, and that's fine to a lot of people. But if you'd never had one before id get a good one that you have soft boiled

>> No.19220546

Scotch eggs are absurdly delicious, but their flavour profile is identical to eating sausages and eggs plated together. They're usually a waste of time to make yourself and their primary utility is a fun and whimsical presentation when entertaining others or more easily taking them on the go like a sausage roll.

Theres lots of variants on Youtube. This is a Gordon Ramsay one, but he adds black pudding, which isnt necessary. It shows the technique atleast

One posh supermarket- M&S, which you cook at home in the oven. And other than that some gastro pubs or a bistro might do their own. Any restaurant like place that sells them would always be the warm soft boiled variety
