what beer should I drink? The only ones I enjoy are Guinness and Modelo Negra, but I've been told they are for tastelets. Gimme something similar to ease into better beers.

Modela negra is actually a good representation of its style. It isn't a bad beer.

Try sam smiths oatmeal stout, or their chocolate stout. The oatmeal stout is an excellent beer that will btfo guinness like you couldn't even imagine.

If you like Guinness, then find a local brewery that makes a stout and serves it on nitro. Guinness on tap is decent, but a fresh stout made by a local brewery that serves it nitro will be amazing in comparison.

modelo negra is a genuinely good beer. it's a munich dunkel, that's just not a very common style so for beers in that vein, it's probably your best bet that you'll actually be able to find regularly.
guinness is fine but it's basically just vaguely coffee-chocolately spritzed water. guinness is a stout so look into beers in that style. as far as readily available stouts, try samuel smith's oatmeal stout, maybe murphy's stout. on the craft side, most craft breweries will be at least like 75% IPAs but will also probably have at least one stout available year round and more during certain times of the year, so take a look there.
in my opinion, the best of the big name beers that the vast majority of restaurants and bars and such will have (or at least one of them), meaning you will always be able to order something you know you'll like at most places, is either yuengling or stella artois (also modelo negra but that might be a bit rarer than the former two), so try them out.
finally pic related is my favorite beer, might be available somewhere near you. it's a hefeweizen, that means it is vaguely similar to the modelo negra. just a good tasting beer.

Guinness is the "I'm driving home, but still want to be sociable" beer. It's delicious and the fact that it doesn't get you pissed is a benefit. Sometimes I do wish I could get fucked up off it, and they do make the Extra Stout that's like 5.9%, but it's not as tasty. At that point I'd rather drink pic related, at 9.5%.

It's not REALLY the same style as Guinness or Modelo (which, I'll agree with the rest of the thread in noting, are genuinely good beers) but it's quite good for what it is, maybe you will like it. You can definitely get dickered off the stuff, and it seems to me to be very low-carbonation too which does also help the "can't get drunk off beer" phenomenon. I like it because Binny's sells those 22oz bottles for cheap out of the cooler, so it's a nice little add-on on the way out.

Czechs are known for their dark beers too. Fond memories of big mugs of the stuff in Prague. I can never remember if it was Kozel or Krusovice that I was drinking but boy was the stuff just so good. Again, not anything you'll get dickered off, but tasty.

i've only ever seen zywiec in big single bottles, it's definitely worth picking up the porter if you see them in singles. really tasty and you'll definitely feel something if you drink more than one. never had their lager but heard it's good too, though not as good.
when you go to buy your beer i'd recommend checking out the rest of the single beer area, if they have one. just pick whatever looks cool or sounds interesting. it's a good way to try a spread of beers. you posted total wine's website, i think the total wine by me has a build-your-own-6-pack type deal, yours might have that too.

luckily I don't like them at all. for me 6% oktoberfest bier (spaten or löwenbräu, if mainstream) is ideal but it's only available for a few months. it's the best "mix" of regular beer and weissbier basically, similar to erdinger but better

look into nitro beer. it's nitrogenated instead of carbonated. they recommend you shake it up and pour it hard so you still get some head, but it really just drinks like minimally-carbonated beer.
myself, I'll just always drink from a glass after pouring the beer hard as hell to work more of the carbonation out, maybe stirring it briskly, stuff like that. It helps.

Guiness and Modelo Negra are for tastelets in the sense that they're at the highest rung of the basic bitch beer ladder. And to their credit, for the price point you can't really even get better quality. For me they serve as a good and accessible starting point for comparing good beer if youre trying to get into craft or import stuff.

Guinness is a macro with stout features, not your typical standard example of a stout. If you want a copy only beers in the EXACT sub category will do. This category being the Irish Dry Stout. Examples besides Guinness are Murphy's or Beamish but I don't think they export Beamish any longer. You could also try their small breweries of Ireland as long as they're labeled Dry stout. Sometimes beers from other categories can taste like Guinness though. Ridgeway Imperial Porter springs to mind but sadly they discontinued it I believe. It was like Guinness only better and stronger.
