I don't get why cantaloupe (and honeydew) have a bad rap. They're no watermelon or apple but they're not the worst fruit either.

Both are better than watermelon by far. If you prefer watermelon to honeydew you are simply a tastelet

You have to know when to buy them, but if you get a good one they are probably one of the best fruits going.

>> No.19205536

Honeydew is delicious, but it's frequently sold and served underripe, and then it's just tasteless and awful. Cantaloupe is one of the finest fruits in the land. Watermelon is overrated. I would never choose it over cantaloupe.

kind of like a watered down version of a melon.

They never had a bad "rap" with me, I've always loved both cantelope and honeyews, watermelons too, a tiny pinch of salt sparkles them all right up. Coconuts too, those are great as long your not chilling out under one of those trees and they're falling on your head, or worse a girlfriend's head.

I love honeydew. Canteloupe has a musky stink to it, it reminds me of the smell of mice or rodent cages. I feel like I'll have bad breath after eating Canteloupe. Honeydew just tastes like sweet and green. Watermelon is the GOAT though, especially when it's super juicy, cubed up and put in the fridge to be pulled out on a >90°F summer day.

My throat would itch after eating cantelope, and I thought I was allergic too. Until I got an allergy test done. Doctor said I was allergic to ragweed, not cantelope. Bland and watery, as are all melons. I'd believe that there exists or once existed an original melon breed that actually tasted good but at least the ones I can get taste like absolute shit. Basically just crunchy water with a whisper of weird flavor. They're ok if you put sugar on them but that's just pathetic for a fruit. Plus they're too big, I don't like being reminded that most people have families that can eat a melon together

it's stinky, but doesn't taste godly liked durian does. I have the opportunity to grow it right now, but I'm growing Butternut and Watermelon instead. Salted, vine-ripened watermelon from a hot area is objectively the best garden fruit for summer.

Cantaloupe isn't bad, it just has the same problem as eggplant; there's a better, more tasty cousin available that I'd rather eat.

A lot of people's parents overcook brocolli to the point it's nasty mush, or in my Mom's case, she would always pour this velveeta based sauce over it that I hated. Once I actually tried some plain, I actually liked it a lot.

Eating badly prepared and/or low quality foods during childhood is likely the most common reason people hate certain things.

It's quite difficult to get proper ripe melons, since they bruise extremely easily and go mushy very quickly (don't have the thick rind of watermelons), so most of them are picked underripe. Kinda the same problem with pears. A good ripe pear is incredible, but good luck buying already ripened pears. And ripening on the counter isn't the same as ripening on the tree.
