Why do people hate beans on toast?
>love beans
>love toast
I don't see how this could possibly go wrong. Unfortunately I'm American so it's not a common breakfast here, but it sure sounds a lot better than having a bowl of sugary cereal.

I don't think they hate it per se, it's just not the most appealing thing on Earth to most people.

It's rather bland and unexciting. But nutritionally it's not a terrible bit of fuel... Basic carbs and proteins.

I'd be curious what the most common combination is of type of bread and type of beans used.

Just had brunch lads
Toasted malt/seeds wholemeal
Ms Balls chutney
Sliced gherkins
Fast scrambled eggs (3) with garlic powder, light soy, Colman's mustard, toasted sesame oil, in butter
Grated mature cheddar
Branston beans with added habanero sauce and worcestershire
Didn't have any black pudding on hand

Lovely stuff, but I'm still hungry. Coffee time.

getting the bread soggy and suffused with bean sauce is the point of putting the beans on top. done properly you will need to use a knife and fork

>> No.19175419

Because people are fickle and food trends are a mish mash of culture and preference. Some people like the contrast of soggy and crisp. When you make a pie the bottom in contact with the filling does go a bit soggy. The top is crisp. That's fine, but soggy bread? Nah, apparently nasty. Many cultures use soft bread to mop up bean sauce and yet putting beans on top of the bread is a transgression. If soggy bread triggers you then just spread it with some butter before adding the beans. Fat repels the liquid and creates a hydrophobic layer. The canned beans (pic rel) tend to have added sugar. So buy your own beans and add the sauce. There isn't any sugar in my beans. I eat the same dish, but make my own upgraded version.

I'm a burger, and I tried the Heinz beanz that bongs eat on their toast. They're incredibly bland, and I'm not just saying that because the baked beans we have here are loaded with sugar (I never eat those). I should have done like >>19174568 said and added some cheese and seasonings to it. I usually eat natt o toast for breakfast, so I'm not opposed to beans on toast in general.

Heinz are the least flavourful brand of canned beans - and even the good ones, you'll have to adjust to taste. Honestly if you can muster the effort it's better to make your own.

Only some do.
What Brits have to understand is that American "Tinned" beans are HEAVY on sugar. The Amerilard palate has become fucked with high fructose corn syrup.
The original intent for this was that so there would be a measure of carmelization when they are heated properly to temp, or baked on an oven like the old Boston baked beans(a TRULY different flavor.)
Now, with most Amerifats heating most everything in a microwave, for only a minute or two, it turns out more like beans in a tomato syrup.
An analogous for would be how Brits just can't understand why Yanks would eat beef or onion gravy on cookies--We don't do that, but that's what "Biscuits and Gravy" means to them.
As a quick, comfort food, if more 'Murricans had access to British style beans, It could become as popular as Mac 'n' Cheese.

They're great but they're both support acts. Like potatoes, pasta and rice. Do you ever pump the trumpet for rice and beans? Pasta and beans? Potato and rice? Toast and pasta? Of course not. In practice, if you're eating this as a meal, it's with eggs. In that context, neither the single slice of bread nor the beans represent a lot of carbs in themselves.
