Cookout is good if you think of it like Wendy's, McDonald's, BK when they were starting. You can get a better burger at a proper restaurant, but its good enough and the cost is cheap to not care.

Whats crazy is that McDonald's exist and is charging almost Five Guy prices without the app and people still go there.

The Island is good for a night or two although it's a glorified shopping mall
If you are feeling up to it cross over the mountains and go to the casinos in Cherokee (about an hour from Pigeon Forge, don't try to come back late at night)
I would say visit the national park but I'm assuming you, your wife, and her family are all morbidly obese
As far as restaurants it's almost all chain bullshit so just pick something, the food is usually decent wherever you go though

They're both god tier. But the thing is Shake Shack's quality is fucking amazing. It literally tastes like they just went and killed the fucking cow out back before they make your burgers. Wendy's is your normal run-of-the-mill fastfood slop but I find their burgers better than most. They've been killing it with the fries too since they started using the sea salt bullshit or whatever. I'd say strictly talking burgers: Shake Shack, Wendy's, and Burger King. Shack Shake and Wendy's overall are god tier but Burger King is shit outside of their burgers.

Cook-Out truly does mog all other fast food options in markets where it's available. The price has gone up like it has everywhere else, but the food is still the same in the same portions and there's no better price-to-value ratio.

So I did some work for FHWA EFL on Newfound Gap Road, effectively a road safety audit
What ends up happening is that people go to the casino, stay late, get drunk, etc. then try to drive back over the mountains
It's hard to get lost (the only two side roads go to Clingmans Dome and Cades Cove and are usually gated off after hours) but there are a lot of crashes
Also the road will be closed often for inclement weather, etc. and you can get stranded on one side or the other. Detour is ~60 miles out of the way
People seem to forget that Newfound Gap Road is as long as it is and how much of a change in elevation it is. It takes 45 minutes to an hour to cross the mountains and you are going 4,000 feet up and back down while you do it. The weather in Gatlinburg or Cherokee can be perfectly nice while it's windy, storming, or snowing in the mountains
Incidentally there are a lot of people who get lost or stuck trying to hike from the road out with zero equipment, water, etc. and require rescue. When I was out there for work I met a guy and two small kids trying to hike up to Mt. LeConte wearing street clothes and no packs starting at 2:00 PM. This is a six-mile hike and 5,000 feet up one way
Honestly the park gets wasted on boomers and fatties who spend their time eating at Paula Deen's family restaurant and going to the Ripley's "museum" instead of enjoying the outdoors, simply because they think they visited it because they drove to Clingmans Dome and didn't get out of the car because it was too cold/windy
