My mom and dad make kinda bad food, often veg based( cus we are so damn poor) and I just hate it. Mostly soups with bread or some weggies with rice.
I'm often buying those shitty cans for something like 0.7€ in local europoor currency and eat them plain w/ bread or pour it over the rice at hand or something.
I got bored of them and I want to diversify it somehow without compromising on convenience to much( I love just poping a can open and start eating, college doesn't leave me that much time).

So now I ask you, /ck/, were it you, what would you do or add to one of those cans to make it more palatable or diverse?
Would it be neat to not be something more expensive than the can itself.

Buy a can of kidney beans, rinse it. Heat it with a little bit of tap water. When it's hot remove tap water and add a tablespoon of BBQ sauce

>> No.19140622

Drain and rinse them, fry up some chopped onion and garlic in olive oil and then add maybe 1/4 cup diced pancetta, bacon or chorizo (these are all cheap in lidl) and fry for a bit. Add salt, pepper, paprika and cayenne if you want it spicy and 1/4 cup tomato paste. Stir and add a bit of water to dissolve the paste into a sauce that covers the ingredients. Simmer for about 5 mins and you're done. Eat by itself or serve with rice, the meat is also optional.

Never had spam. Should I be scared of it? It seems like the utmost goyslob thing to be canned as an independently. Might give it a try.
>>19140603
Yeah, I tought of that but I forgot to mention:
The reason I picked beans is cus they are both more filling and are technically protein, as opposed to plain rice and in this case noodles.
I could use em as a base for the beans, maybe using white beans and make a thicker sauce out of the condiment pack.

I'm at the begging dude, I try getting one of those student jobs but then again, I am short on time as a whole. I will surely buy groceries when I will afford em.
>>19140614
Done that with white beans before. I tend to use more than a tablespoon of sauce so that's why it's not so appealing as it gves me the feeling of an added cost. And if I buy a bottle of sauce it will be used by all the family (I got brothers and a sister too), and it tends to get empty fast.

Anon, I don't have he freezer just for me. If I buy anything other than cans wich I can eat fast, I kinda feel obligated to share w/ everyone.

Cans are always overpriced. Companies like Freshona need to make profit after farmers have had theirs. You're bleeding money if you buy cans.

Plus they taste like shit as you already noticed. It's lose/lose for you. Make your own food and be free.

Spam is the shit. Take spam and a grater and grate the spam, do the same with the cheese, combine both and make patties with them and then fry it up.

I really am short on money, but even worse with time.
I can't really cook for the whole family as that would requre time and even more ingredients. It defeats the whole: can/convenience/almost insantaneous dish thing i was looking for.
While I am qenuinely looking foward to the day I'll be able to: cook all the fancy dishes/ afford the meat that would make it worth going to the gym/ baking all the fancy deserts w/ my sister, right now, I'm just trying to survive, and the caloric deficit has a negative effect on my learning.

Damn it! I even consideret trying to can my own baked beans!
As I have tried and succided in making tasty beans before I have absolutely no idea about canning and what I can actually can put in a jar.
I guess I will keep doing what I was doing until I get a job (no I won t be fliping burgers, not yet.) and will afford not to starve.
We had fricking stinging nettles soup today, damn it! I skiped the dinner again.

Foie Gras, Kobe beef, saffron threads, and sturgeon caviar soup bro. In my povvo times I survived months just eating this. Stop splurging on luxuries like salt and pepper soup and boiled cardboard. Put your family first you selfish fuck. If you're really struggling for food you could swallow your damn pride and book a table at Sublimotion in Ibiza. Be a man.

Anon, please, before the thread dies, satisfy our curiosity. How can you be so poor that you eat nettle soup, yet so short on time you can't cook?
