Going to an asian market soon. I've only been to one once before. What are some good beginner friendly things I should pick up to cook with?

Depends on what you're cooking but some things that can be good to have are things like fish sauce (some asian dishes doesn't taste right if you use salt because sometimes fish sauce is used instead of salt), lemongrass, thaibasil, coconut milk, curry paste and so on.

Right there you have a good base for sauce or like a stew.

If you want it hotter then start with frying a bit of curry paste slightly then add your choice of protein/meat then when that is done add coconut milk, thaibasil and lemongrass and some fishsauce but use little at a time and then taste to see if you think it's done after that then just let it simmer for quite some time and serve with rice or whatever you feel like.

You can always add something sweet and sour to the mix, if you reduce the sauce too much then just add more coconut milk and well just experiment you can usually offset most things if you add too much.

If you want it thicker then just fish up the coconut cream that separates to the top in the coconut milk package or just reduce the sauce by letting it boil off.

I might be forgetting something but it is a decent base to start with and then modify to your hearts delight by adding and/or subtracting ingredients.

It's like a watermelon sized cucumber.
Fun to eat a massive slice. Feels like something outta star trek.

this is definitely amazing but I wouldn't say it's mandatory like the other stuff. same goes for shaoxing wine. he wanted to keep it simple

also the price of red boat is not exactly 'beginner friendly' and the other fish sauces aren't half as good
