Loading and unloading a dishwasher is a worse chore than simply washing the dishes

>> No.19122794

Loading a dishwasher takes me 2 seconds per item, roughly a minute total to get it full. It's hardly a "chore."
The only things I dislike about dishwashers are:
1) handwashing, though takes more active labour time, takes less total time (30ish minutes for a dishwasher's worth of dishes vs 100 minutes for the dishwasher to do it),
2) uses more water than when I wash by hand and
3) dishwasher detergent is more expensive than dishwashing liquid and not as multipurpose (I use liquid to wash my hands in the kitchen as well as the counters and floors; just foam it, scrub it in, squeegee it off, sponge it with water and squeegee again)

I like to wash dishes by hand. I enjoy being up off my ass doing chores and stuff. I don't just wash the dishes, either, I clean my kitchen as well; wipe down surface, organize, sweep, mop if needed. It doesn't take that long, not even a half hour. A good dishwasher could be more efficient with time, but I've had bad dishwashers that take just as long because you have to pre-soak, rinse, or scrape all the dishes beforehand, or else the don't come out clean.

The whole time/money thing is a retarded concept and just an excuse for not wanting to do chores or whatever. It's fine by me if you don't want to do chores, but nobody is convinced that you're losing money if you spend an hour or two cooking or cleaning every day. you think the hot water magically appears in your water tap?

Most electricity consumed in washing dishes comes from heating the water (there's also cleaning, treating and pumping drinking water to your home, but that's relatively negligible)
It doesn't matter you heat it in dishwasher or water heater.
If you use less water, you use less electricity, it's that simple.
The pump sprinkling the water around uses very little power in comparison.

NTA, but i did actually measure the water i used. I removed the pipe from under the sink and put a a feed bucket for horses under it to check. Think it's a 5 gallon one.
To wash a sink full of dishes, it took me about 6 litres of water, including the cold water i go through to get to the hot water. I spray the dishes with the sink hose's hot water, scrub with dish soap and set aside, repeating the process with the next dish and the next and the next and the next until the other sink is full of soapy dishes, then i hose them all down with hot water and put them in the drying rack.
My dishwasher brags that it uses "only" three gallons (ie 11 litres, lol)

More or less, yes. When I say "a sink full" I mean the one half of the double sink we use for dirty dishes +whatever dishes and cookware were on the bench and hob or in the oven. It was after some holiday or other. Easter last year, I think.
I only know it was a holiday because we tend to get "backlogged" with the cleaning up after prepping, cooking and eating the meal and chatting with guests. Otherwise, the dishes would have gone straight into the dishwasher.
Reason they don't go in straight away after holidays is because I tend to serve the meal directly from the cooking pots/pans/bakeware and it all kinda stays out on the table while we chat and shit. So if it was Easter, it would have been two glass baking dishes, one large saucepan, a large frying pan, a few prep bowls, the instant pot, a small frying pan, a serving plate for cheeses, olives, pickles, cured meat and raw veg, six dinner plates, six bread plates, 6 water glasses, four wine glasses, at least two knives and cutting boards, various cutlery and cooking utencils, etc etc etc.
I remember it was a holiday cuz we got into a small argument about me taking apart the sink after guests left. We don't typically have guests except for holidays.

>it's actually satisfying seeing all the perfectly sparkling glasses and dishes hot out the dishwasher with no disgusting finger print on the "clean" cups like in op's house

op is a faggot, a retard, and very likely a boomer who leaves soap residue on his dishes and think it's "okay" to do so, and his "clean" cups have disgusting fingerprints all over them still

The only downside to tankless is the warm up time to get it going and warm the pipes. It is a bit longer than the tanked I had prior, but the great upside is that I just don't ever run out of hot water. Super great for when you have people showering one after each other. Then no power/gas waste when not using it the other 95% of the day.

Hardly. I use those foaming soap pumps, fill it with dish soap and water, pump the foam onto the floor, use a push broom as a scrub brush and scrub the floor then squeegee it all out the door or down the floor drain (depending on which room I'm in). Next, i get the sponge broom and wet the floor all over with water to rinse and squeegee it dry. Works a treat. Really wish more houses had floor drains in the kitchen and bathroom.

You rinse the dish and load it in the dishwasher as soon as the meal is finished. I have made it clear to my fiancee that this is a requirement for our marriage and that our children will be doing this by age 6. It's simply not negotiable.

>> No.19129792

>our children will be doing this by age 6
Agreed. My son is 5. He's not quite old enough to wash dishes himself, even his own shatterproof ones, but before we got the dishwasher, he was at least rinsing his cup and dish for us to wash and the behaviour continued with the dishwasher.
It's bizarre how much little kids want to "help." I dread the day he gets old enough to know that chores are not fun and are, well, a chore (and often thankless at that) so I'm enjoying the fact the he'll happily rinse off his plate and cup and clear his toys and do other shit like that for the time being.
I'm not sure what age i started to hate them, but at some point, i started to put my parents through hell with them pleading with me to do even the most basic chores and I'm worried the perennial parental curse "i hope you have a kid just like you!" will take hold some day.

Because dish washer heats over 60C for multiple minutes, which disinfects.
Because dealing with 'baked in' stuff isn't a thing in proffessional kitchens that clean shit at most an hour after the person is done eating from it, so hand washing goes super easy and fast too.

You have more bacteria cells in your body than human cells.
There is a literal living coating of bacteria on every surface on earth (and below the surface).
The inside of your mouth is an ideal warm liquid bacteria breeding ground.

The only thing you need to care about is exposure to other people, the more foreign the more dangerous to you.
